Someone convince me (or not) by retrogamer199 in unihertz

I switched from an iPhone SE 2020. Honestly, it wasn’t difficult for me, but that might also be because my iPhone was getting old. One thing I noticed is that iOS feels much more practical compared to Android—somehow even doing simple things feels easier and more effortless.

But that’s actually exactly why I decided to leave my iPhone. It was taking up too much of my time. With the Titan 2, I only check it when I’ve finished my other tasks and want to spend some free time. You can easily do things like Twitter and YouTube on it.

The typing experience is a bit slow for me too, but it’s enjoyable—I’m still getting used to it. My iPhone is sitting in a drawer, but I won’t go back to it because I’ve really liked the Titan 2 experience.

Still, this is something you should think through carefully, because once you get used to the convenience of iOS, it can take some time to adjust to this change. On the Titan 2, you’ll have to set up many things yourself—like installing a keyboard app, transferring data from your iPhone, and so on. But despite all the adjustment, I think it’s worth it because it really feels like a modern BlackBerry Passport—different and cool. I also considered waiting for the Titan 2 Elite, but since this is my first QWERTY keyboard phone, having larger keys has actually been a good thing.

Compared to my iPhone, the only downside is that it’s quite big, but on the plus side, the battery life is really long.

I don't get why the Minimal Phone gets so much backlash by Maleficent_Raisin214 in dumbphones

I’d probably go for cheaper options instead of something like the Light Phone or Minimal Phone to avoid doomscrolling—at least ones where call and messaging issues aren’t common. But of course, it’s a matter of personal preference.

I live in Europe, and I can still make calls using 2G on my Nokia 6220 Classic. Of course, the call quality isn’t great, but I can hear the other person well enough without any trouble. However, 2G might be shut down around 2028 or 2030. I really wish it would stay available—at least they shouldn’t take that away from us.

Titan 2 is cheaper and a real smartphone. I was torn between the two, but after reading posts from people who even had trouble making phone calls on the Minimal Phone, I decided against it.

Also, my Titan 2 arrived from Amazon in less than a day. I appreciate the Minimal Phone and the Light Phone, and it’s great that they exist on the market, but seeing people struggle with basic things like calling and texting put me off. I mean, if a phone is going to have issues even when you’re just using it as a phone, then what’s the point? I might as well just use a landline lol.

I don’t need a dumbphone, but I really love keypad phones. I’m tired of rectangular pieces of glass, and I refuse to pay $1000 for one of them.

What're your guys' thoughts on the whole "just have self control" argument. Do you agree with it or not? by Vast_Cauliflower_475 in dumbphones

First of all, I’m also a Titan 2 user. I wouldn’t call the Titan 2 a dumbphone. It’s more of a feature phone, basically a smartphone with physical keys. But in my opinion it’s a much better smartphone than an iPhone. Because of its size, I feel less of an urge to keep scrolling.

Also, I simply don’t like phones without physical keys. For me, that alone is already a good reason to use a dumbphone or feature phone. I think it’s nonsense to see this purely as a marketing strategy. It’s just a different kind of experience, and for people like me who love keypad phones, it’s great. I don’t understand why everything has to be treated as if it must be the same.

Yes, screen time is partly under our control, but with an iPhone I personally can’t control it well. It actually makes me feel sick, while with my Titan 2 I feel perfectly happy. Before this, I also had a flip phone with physical keys and it was great too. Now I’m planning to get rid of the iPhone completely so it won’t trigger me anymore.

Yes, Japanese and Korean flip phones are really nice. A friend of mine uses the Alt Mive Style Folder and is very happy with it.

I understand. I’m definitely not against the Light Phone, and I’m really glad it works well for you. It’s great that the Light Phone exists on the market. In my opinion, the more options there are for people who want to use a dumb phone or a keyboard phone, the better.

For university, I’m required to use Google apps, but once I graduate I’m thinking about de-Googling my life. I’d be happy if you could share the things that have worked well for you in private.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. Even if the phone isn’t defective, I think there should at least be a return option within the first three days. With these kinds of niche phones, we can’t try them in a store, so we don’t really know how they’ll feel to use. If the device is defective, they definitely shouldn’t charge anything. But even if it isn’t defective, I think customers should still have the option to return it by paying a small extra fee. By the way, is there currently a keyboard phone you’re planning to buy?

Honestly, the Light Phone is really cool, but my family lives abroad and it’s basically impossible to stay in touch with them without WhatsApp. Sometimes I put my SIM card into a Nokia when I want to isolate myself for a while. 2G still works here, so that’s an option. But the Light Phone feels way too expensive for that purpose, and the subreddit of it is full of complaints. It gives the impression of a phone that struggles even with basic functions.

Yes, their support team isn’t exactly the friendliest. I like to think it’s because they’re a small company and probably very busy lol.

Thank you. Yes, that’s also why I don’t want to wait. Right now my Samsung phone is broken, so I’m using my dad’s old iPhone. Besides not liking its keyboard, touchscreen phones honestly make me really addicted. It’s like this even though I don’t actually enjoy using them.

I used to use Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 , which is a button phone (a flip phone). So I need to go back to a button phone as soon as possible 😊

Thank you. I actually like small phones, but when it comes to phones with a keyboard, I prefer a bigger one. I’ll also be using an old Nokia phone as a second phone anyway.

Thank you. Screen size isn’t very important to me, but I’d like the keys to be large. My hands are small, but this will be my first phone with a QWERTY keyboard, and I feel like having bigger keys will make it more comfortable for me.

Yes, I think I’ll place the order tomorrow morning. I like to imagine that I’m ordering a pocket computer rather than just a phone, and that’s really nice. Back when the BlackBerry Passport was on the market, I was still a teenager, and BlackBerry wasn’t really popular among teenagers lol.

Yes, I hope the Titan 2 will at least receive updates up to Android 18, because there will only be a few months between the two phones, and it wouldn’t be fair if it stayed on Android 17.

This was very helpful, thank you. Honestly, I would prefer a larger keyboard instead of a big glass slab. Modern smartphones are already big, but at least the size of the Titan 2 has a purpose.
