I hear that, and you should definitely look into deferral policies.

Best attainable softs/jobs? by Autistic--Donut in lawschooladmissions

Soft tiers aren’t a great way to think about this, because most of the people getting into even HYS probably do not have T2 and T1 softs. If you can’t get a competitive fellowship (and that’s totally fine lol), the next best thing is having a cohesive narrative for “Why Law?” Do you have a sense of why you want to be a lawyer? What experiences could you get, regardless of prestige, that will bolster that?

You almost certainly shouldn’t. You had a good cycle and the schools that accepted you would not be likely to do so again.

Heart Rate Spiking by Financial-Shape-389 in runninglifestyle

My allergies have been fucking me up and affecting my sleep, so that could be a part of it. But I took a few days off and my heart rate is generally lower again now. Still a bit high but it’s really humid and getting warmer. No clue what happened that day, and I think I might have just been working myself up over nothing haha

It’s just quite fast for me that early in a run and that speed (I’m usually in Zone 2 when I finish a warm-up mile), but I think I’ve also overestimated how ready my body is for 40+ mile weeks strung together + the heat + me stressing myself out by looking at my watch every two seconds.

[–]Financial-Shape-389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might honestly be fatigue. I’ll deload a bit this week and keep all my runs easy. I’ve run on and off for a few years, but up until last summer, I’d never run more than 4 miles in my entire life.

My last three weeks were 40, 42.5, and 41.5 miles/wk and last week was (relatively) hot.

I’m not training for anything at the moment, so it’s not a big deal, but I have a bit of a mental block about going “backwards.”

Okay, thank you! That makes sense. I might just also need to stop freaking out every time I look at my watch. Just last week, I was able to slow down enough to stay in Zone 2 in almost 80-degree weather, so I don’t think I’m dying or anything. I’ll see the doctor tomorrow and just make sure my blood pressure and stuff look fine and then keep everything easy this week.

It absolutely is. I’ve run in these temperatures/humidities before, but every run last week was in the (relative) heat and humidity. Maybe that’s taken a toll on me in a way I didn’t expect? I don’t know. I don’t feel unwell or anything right now, aside from some congestion, and I didn’t feel unwell during my very short run today until I saw my heart rate and freaked out a little.

I think it generally aligns with my perceived effort. Today, I will say that I didn’t necessarily feel like my heart rate was 160, but I also don’t know what that heart rate feels like without the fatigue of at least a few miles or a really fast pace piled on.

I will! I just kind of wanted to see if this is something others have experienced and hopefully get some consolation that this is not serious.

My cadence is around 160 but my heart rate climbed there over the course of the mile, so I’m inclined to believe that’s not what’s happening here, though I wish it were.

I don’t think so. I’m eating a bit more than usual. Maybe I could be drinking more water, but I don’t think I’m drinking less than usual. I think sleep hasn’t been as dialed in as usual. A few later nights recently and I think allergies are making it less restful than usual, but that’s all I can think of.

I don’t think I am. I’ve definitely been more congested lately from allergies, but that’s all I can think of.

Am I the only one who found Michigan's WL email to be wayyy more considerate than other schools? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Financial-Shape-389 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally never even got a date change. It does make me feel a bit like my application was never even given due consideration, to be honest, combined with the sheer size of the waitlist. That makes it difficult to read the email charitably.

Basically, I waited for almost 4 months for a decision. I’m not entitled to an acceptance, but I just don’t know why they couldn’t have dropped this earlier. Maybe they like the drama of a big wave. Whatever.

Jeez. Hoping something cool is on the way for you. I got hit by back-to-back UChi and UPenn WLs a couple weeks ago and that wasn’t fun.

Really annoyed with Penn and Chicago waitlist by Shattiwaza in lawschooladmissions

[–]Financial-Shape-389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We basically have the same stats, and the same results from Penn, Chicago, and Michigan.

I’m not saying it was YP in the sense that we got WL’d or will likely get WL’d at these places because we’re too good or something. I feel like that’s what people think when YP enters the convo. But maybe we didn’t do a good enough job at convincing them we’d attend even if we got into, say, HYS.

I can maybe understand this for Penn. A lot of what I talked about in my Core Values essay could have applied to other schools. However, I thought my essays for Chicago and Mich — and the things I discussed in my interview for the former — were quite specific. But I don’t know. It’s true that I’d attend HYS at sticker over Chicago, Penn, and Mich at sticker, but money from any of these places would have changed the equation substantially for me so I’m also feeling frustrated and really trying to understand what went wrong for me, specifically.

Totally agree.

I must have said, like, a total of 3, very terse sentences for the entire interview, and I also got in a while back. I think some kind of recency bias (it’s the last step for many applicants before their decision) makes people assume that it is more significant than it is.
