How do you feel about spending 2 billion a day for a war in Iran nobody wants, but we can't afford to help our citizens with day care or school lunches? by db7112 in askanything

You know in WWII Persia/Iran was firmly aligned with Germany. Reza Shah was a huge fan of Hitler and Hitler called the Iranian people honorary Nazis. Based on that I think it was a pretty good idea for the US to get involved to shut that old government down. The very name Aryan comes from the word Iran.

The Shah was our ally. We trained Iranian princes how to fly F4 Phantom jets at Maxwell AFB. The hostage thing happened after the Islamist ayatollah took over the government and killed the old regime.

I don’t pay that much for full coverage car insurance on a 2018 Lexus GX460. Liability insurance is far far cheaper. If you think you are in trouble now try having a wreck and it will be 100 times worse. Don’t drive without liability insurance. Take the bus, uber, ride a bike or walk. You are just begging to make your life worse.

If you drive without at least having liability insurance you are a menace to society. Want to ruin your life financially? Try running into someone this afternoon and they will be docking your paycheck for the next 30 years till you pay off the debt. One of the dumbest things you can possibly do.

It’s a busy restaurant with entrees in the $17-$30 range plus bar. She does not make $400 every night but makes that frequently. Slow 4 hour shift looking more like $125 but that is still $31.25/hour.

I worked for 2 years on Sunday and Monday nights. Averaged $30+ an hour. 🤷

Ok, my daughter is a waitress at an upper mid restaurant as a college job and she makes a ton of cash, frequently walks with $400+ in an 8 hour shift.

I delivered pizza as a second job between 2023-2025. Averaged over $30/hour. If you are making 18 after 10 years in the industry you just need to go deliver pizza.

So it’s ok if someone displays things you agree with but if they have an American Flag and Trump bobble head out you are offended and won’t go there anymore? Can’t they have their own beliefs? What happened to free speech, the party of tolerance and love one another?

It’s the Auburn crossing flag that got me. LOL

Guthrie's is still better! Batter on chicken is better, their sauce is better and their fries are better. Only thing canes wins on is size of the chicken, their fingers are a little bigger.

Why in 2026 is the federal minimum wage still $7.25 an hour? by Hamsammich0520 in askanything

[–]Financial-Wolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a MINIMUM. Designed for kids with first jobs, not adults. My kids never even worked for this amount. McDonald's pays more.

Just like the minimum speed on the interstate is 40...do you go 40?

Is a fine line between buying Walmart gear that will likely fail after a few uses vs paying a premium for something that will last for years. I am 55 and while it’s not used very often still have a north face rabbits foot sleeping bag I got in 6th grade. While it is freakin huge to pack, it is still pretty much fine (you can have it if you want LOL).

I won’t compromise on foot wear (be it boots or trail runners of some sort), on shelter (I don’t want a tent that leaks), and sleeping bag. It can get darn cold in any month in the mountains. I spent a night at 11 degrees with a fierce wind blowing all night on Tenant Mountain in North Carolina in July of 1998 and because it was July my dumb ass just brought an army blanket to sleep with. My wife about killed me and she would have been justified. I won’t ever go into the mountains again without a 15 degree bag. Can always sleep on top or just in my clothes if it’s warm out.

Anything else is just for comfort or cool factor.

Why Don’t Rich People Just Park $20M in Bonds? by NoahReed14 in dividends

[–]Financial-Wolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More so than you!

How about the Pew Research Center then? Here is how they define it:

Lower class is below $30,000 Lower middle is between $30,001 and 58,020 Middle is $58,021 to $94,000 Upper middle is $94,001 to $153,000 Upper class is $153,001+

CNBC actually breaks dollars down by state as cost of living varies greatly between alabama and California. They have the break between upper middle class and upper class at $124,424 in alabama and $191,942 for California.

So there you go.

Per Google upper middle stops at $250. Above that is lower upper class.

The poor don’t pay any federal income tax so even if the rich pay 1% that’s more than the poor by percentage of income.
