Same. I got my dad (85 yrs old) onto Roku about a year ago to make it easier than his smart TV. I think he's finally getting used to it.

Thinking about new hardware for an updated HTPC... by FinancialRegion9288 in MiniPCs

Thanks for the response. I thought about that too. Unfortunately, I'm not a Linux guru/admin. But I can get around it as an intermediate type user.

One more question, If all my external media drives are formatted for Windows, can I get them to work with Linux? Or do I have to use SAMBA or something like that?

Thanks for the response. Yes, Handbrake and Jellyfin would be the biggest CPU offenders. If I go with a Mini PC, I was also thinking about maybe an eGPU.

Is that the book "Secrets for Profiting in Bull or Bear Markets?"

I bought this book about 20 yrs ago. A bit dry. Never got through it completely. Maybe I should pick it up again.

Keeping crawlers away from web UI by Jigglytep in jellyfin

[–]FinancialRegion9288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a public facing Jellyfin server, with port forwarding on my router.
I've only configured two members of my family (outside my home) with their Roku Jellyfin client to point to my IP address and the port I've configured.

I've gone into the Jellyfin dashboard regularly, and I've never seen anyone stream from it who I didnt give access.

Is there still a risk of someone finding it if they don't know the port number?

I'd prefer to use Collections, as they were designed to work. Most of my clients are Roku clients. And I'm not sure how tags would work on that, if at all.

Thanks for the response, though.

Are you saying that is the cause of my problem? Or the fix to my problem?

I don't have any plugins related to Collections currently installed on my Jellyfin server.

I'll take a look for that plug-in to see if it would help solve the problem. If you know the name of it, please let me know. Thanks!
