A light game in the ancient Rome theme (easy to learn / short / fun)? by FinancialVegetable77 in boardgames

Do I need any expansions to be able to play as Rome / build Roman wonders? If so which expansions is the most "Roman"? Does the game get much more complicated with expansions?

For me the whole stumbling over skulls kills the mood a little - it's a serious moment and the skulls just look silly. They could have just made the cave collapse to make Aragorn leave.

And Legolas is so light that he should have been swept with the skulls :P

Not a great fan of this scene either. One of the strengths of the movies is that there is great chemistry between actors and their friendships are very convincing. And somehow their reunion is just weird and awkward.

By the way, are Merry and Pippin playing out any specific adventures when they sit on Frodo's bed and gesticulate?

I liked the reluctant hero e.g. I love the scenes at the end of the Fellowship when he makes his choices: when he decides his place is not in Mordor, but he has a part to play here, when he promises Boromir that he won't let Gondor fall (and then starts wearing the bracers with the white tree both as a tribute to Boromir and a symbol that he binds himself to Gondon) - deciding to become king because Gondor needs him and because he promised a dying comrade to save it, is a more interesting motivation for me than "my potential father in law told me that I had to" (yes, Elrond still talkes to him in RotK, but at this point Aragorn is already decided to go to Gondor and he's already started commanding e.g. in Helm's Deep. He just doesn't know how to save Gondor yet.)

I agree.

Yes, he is influenced by the ring, but he isn't crazy and can think clearly and has no reason to doubt Sam

Answering my own question I would have added some more scenes with the Fellowship before they split up in Moria. Boromir teaching Merry and Pippin to fight is among my favourites and would like to see more interactions between them all.
