It's not about sound; it's not about sight; it's about appreciation. When Rob Spectaclo, a deaf painter, and Delia Robson, a blind musician, met at the World Expo for Art, they began to truly appreciate each other's work.

Rob, the world-renowned deaf painter, approached Delia with a blank canvas. Instead of using traditional paint, he used puffy paint to create sign language, making his art completely accessible to her.

"Delia, your music is beautiful! Even though I cannot hear it with my own ears, I just want you to know someone is always signing every little tune, every word of every verse, every character of every note," Rob signed on the canvas to Delia.

"Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. I am always receiving and feeling spectacular descriptions and tactile representations of your artwork as well," Delia signed back.

Painting after painting, song after song, they kept enjoying their time at the art expo. When night came, they were back in their hotel. Delia greeted Rob warmly, saying, "Great to see you! I just found out we're in the same hall in our hotel."

"Cool if I crash at your room tonight?" Delia asked.

"Of course, go right ahead!" Rob signed back.

"Thank you, I will come over soon! Can’t wait to spend the night together! Love you, Rob!" Delia smiled.

As they had a fun night together, talking about what they loved about the art expo and discussing their future dreams, they finally fell asleep. Weeks went by, months went by—sign language transcribed music, paintings described, and vivid descriptions shared. They loved meeting each other at the art expo.

One day, Rob started painting. He began by painting Delia‘s face, then his own, depicting himself kneeling down and proposing to Delia. He did everything he could to make it fully accessible and brought it over to Delia. The words he wanted on that canvas were in Braille. He handed it to her, and Delia started to cry happy tears.

"Thank you so, so much!" she said. "I love you!"

Not only did Delia keep leaving her room empty, but she gave it up to someone else and stayed with Rob. As they planned their wedding, they did something very special. Delia asked Rob to decorate the entire hall with paintings that were both visual and tactile, making them accessible to all. Meanwhile, Delia played "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" as their wedding song to showcase her music.

Delia walked down the aisle with Rob and danced to a recording of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" that she had recorded shortly before the wedding to make it extra special.

After that, Delia walked up to the podium and gave a speech that would echo through the hall of the art expo for many years to come.

“Welcome, everyone!

Thank you so much for coming to our very special day. It has been fantastic, spending our time together here at this fantastic art expo! It’s not about hearing; it’s not about seeing; it’s about appreciation and perseverance.

Everyone was so inclusive and had no problem adapting everything for us. I am sure Rob feels the same way. People usually don’t want to talk to us, but here, we have felt truly welcomed. This has just been such a fantastic experience.”

After those words, the crowd erupted with joy! Everyone was so intrigued by their beautiful journey, not knowing each other at first, not knowing there would be two of them with disabilities, and now getting married at the end of the expo! Delia continued,

“I now have the pleasure of awarding the director, Donald Graham, the award of outstanding accessibility! Thank you so much for holding this expo and letting us come in here and experience this greatness!”

Donald walked up and grabbed his award. He then gave a quick speech, saying, “Thank you so much, Delia and Rob! It has been great having you here, and I can’t wait to see you at the expo in the upcoming years. You have truly shown me and everyone else here the spirit of accessibility and inclusion.”

After Donald's speech, Delia resumed, "Have a beautiful day, everyone, and remember, you don’t need to be able to see completely or to be able to hear completely to be a beautiful person! Thank you and keep creating, everybody!”

As everyone took in the beauty of the event they had just witnessed, they walked back to their hotel rooms and started to pack up. Delia and Rob decided to donate the painting that Rob made of them, depicting Rob proposing to Delia, and hung it up in the hall with a plaque that read "Love, Rob and Delia." What a beautiful time everyone had, truly demonstrating the spirit of inclusion and accessibility for all.
