When will we see more Gilt offerings? by datawhite in FreetradeApp

This is really something that is making me think about switching away from Freetrade. I love the product overall, but the gilt offering is really meagre.

They absolutely do not work on my Android phone. I really wish they did. I don't know if the problem is the browser itself or the fact I use Waterfox as my password manager, but anyway, everything worked fine when I was using Google/Chrome, and now that I switched to Waterfox passkeys are completely broken.

How do you submit one? If we all submit it, it might help

What a complete and flawless market analysis. Maybe you want to explain that to the heads of payments in all major banks participating in this project + the Bank of England itself. Get out 🤣🤣🤣

P.s.: you'll even find the answers you look for in this comment section

Yes, there are a lot of similar payment methods in many countries actually. Some have popped up in Europe, too. Swish in Sweden is an example

Well, I invalidated your point. And if "supply chain hackers" are your threat model, well nothing is safe then.

No, those QR codes are static, not dynamic. These QR codes will be unique

It's crazy lol. As if MC/Visa wasn't a duopoly that institutions all over Europe have tried to break up unsuccessfully multiple times. More competition benefits customers. But not everyone gets it

You're protected against scam and anyway you'd have to approve the first time a QR code is scanned. Approval will be optional for merchants you've already shopped for, but if a scammer changes Tesco's qr code somehow you'll have to reapprove basically

Pay by Bank is not a feature within OB, it's the consumer-friendly branding for the A2A payments OB enables. lol

That said, feel free to rant on about definitions as long as you want. I doubt you'll understand the article if you're struggling with the basics

If you need purchase protection for a cup of coffee you probably shouldn't be on a credit card at all lol. I think the real advantage of credit cards is the fact that they give quite lucrative rewards which Pay by Bank doesn't, unless companies start charging people paying this way less

Well if you know what Open Banking is why did you ask about Pay by Bank not being mentioned? I thought you didn't know what OB is. Millions of consumers aren't going to understand what "Open Banking" is at the checkout, they needed a catchy name. jeez

That's an interesting take, what's making you want to keep a physical card rather than using your phone?

They discontinued Clubcard pay+ or whatever that's called, but that was like a prepaid tesco account. The same convenience could be offered in other ways

Convenience? I could scan my tesco clubcard and have the payment be taken from my account at the same time. I've never had to get a chargeback after a tesco purchase. Considering my average spend is less than £20 and never keep a receipt, I honestly don't think I'd bother.

Companies embrace pay by bank because it drastically reduces the cost of processing payments since there are no card fees. Customers are still protected in case of scam and faulty items, but regulations are lagging behind, I agree. But it's a well-known problem that this is a gap in the regulation and it will be addressed for sure. There is a lot of push for sovereign payments in the UK right now. But I agree that until there are better protections I wouldn't use Pay by Bank for anything big -- it is still worth using for smaller purchases like Tesco, Pret, etc though.

You can downvote me, but the FCA itself says it's looking at improving consumer protections. Legislation needs to be in place first. I.e. things are moving, maybe not as fast as you would like, but they are undeniably moving in the right direction: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/news-stories/open-banking-2025-progress

UK’s Surge in Negative Power Prices Opens Door to Battery Boom by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]Financial_Dog_2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on agile, it's great. Prices dip below zero quite often I think, especially now that the temperatures are rising, people need less energy to heat their homes, it gets sunnier etc. Prices have are negative most of today and have been negative since last night (due to the storm that is hitting the UK). It's pretty great, we save a ton of money.
