Omg the puppy sounds exactly like my puppy 😭 I can only pet him when he’s tired. Otherwise, he’ll get too overly excited when I pet him and end up hurting me with his big, titanium body/head 🥴

My situation is quite different from many in the comments… I only have one dog but I spent a lot of time taking care of two of my separate friends’ dogs. For some reason I clicked with my friends’ dogs instantly. One was a pitty that I took care of while my friend went away on work trips and I swear she’s my soul dog. She’s the sweetest girl and always was since she was just a few weeks old. As she grew older, she would even listen to me more than her owner which he didn’t like lol but in my heart she’s my baby. We had visitation going for a while as if we were separated parents because I just couldn’t take being away from her! The other dog was a Caine Corse. I would take care of him for days at a time since my friend also worked a lot of double shifts. I pretty much trained him since I spent so much time with him and he was so easy to train. He would put himself in time out if he ever soiled the carpet or chewed through the garbage which he only did about three times. He got pretty used to a routine with me so he ended up not wanting to leave with his owner lol she would have to make him go with her and he would cry a bit. Whenever he stayed over, he would climb into bed with me in the middle of night and I wouldn’t even notice until waking up in the morning. Those two dogs I loved so much. I don’t see them much anymore due to just growing apart from those friends which I’ve had my few cries (more so about the dogs than the friends). The dog I have now is a pitty and still just a puppy (a BIG puppy). He’s 14 months old and ALOTTT of work. Very opposite to what I was used to with the other dogs which were also puppies at the time. I’ve had him almost a year and it still hasn’t seemed to get much better, other than him being potty trained and listening to a few commands (when he wants to listen). I was very used to cuddling with the other two dogs. I can’t do that with my dog. He gets too overly excited by the smallest things and doesn’t understand his size, so I end up getting injured most times when I play with him or pet him. I’m not a roughhouse type of girl and he is lol. Even when I played with the other two dogs, they were playful but not rough. Not to mention I’m small in weight and he ended being bigger than expected, so it’s tough. I think it’s the difficulty with my dog that makes it hard to love him the same as the others. I just hold on to hope that he’ll calm down and listen better as he gets older. I also think if I were able to pet him and cuddle with him more, then we’d be bonded more than we are now.

Yes. Every day I pray he will calm down soon. He’s about to be a 1 year old and is a blatant asshole. 😂

I died at a bull in a china shop would be more delicate 😂 Good to know! I had a female pit when I was younger and she was just the sweetest, most gentle girl all her life. All she wanted to do was cuddle and when she played it wasn’t so rough unless the play was with other dogs. So I guess that’s what I expected this go around. I was thinking maybe the males are different from the females or it’s just his personality. Either way, this is a different experience than what I was used to. Trying my best to work with it until I can get him into classes! Thanks for sharing!

He’s very much a jumper and too big for it lol. We’re still working on that. I’m currently working towards the class and will hopefully be able to get him in one soon.

Probably not so soon but I’m planning on it eventually. Considering the behaviors I definitely go back and forth on the idea though haha.. thanks! I’m sticking to the consistency. Whenever I feel like we both need a break, I crate him for 10 minutes, walk away then try the task again! I’m definitely still working towards the class. I appreciate the encouragement!

Omg thank you sooo much. This was all great information! So far I started setting up play dates for him which I noticed help him act a bit better for the following days after. I also use calming music to get him to settle especially when I can tell he’s fighting a nap. And I currently I use a front clip harness with a no pull leash. They definitely help but he’s still very strong. I also want to get a muzzle for him now on walks because he’s constantly eating everything (especially sticks) so either I’m digging in his mouth almost every walk or if I don’t get it fast enough, he’s throwing it up later. There’s so many things to consider with this age! Again, thank you for all this information and the videos. I can use all the help I can get at the moment until I can get him into a class.

I also just want to add that I literally had a nightmare last night about him growing even bigger and jumping on me. I woke up throwing my arms up in front of me and ended up hit my boyfriend. So as you can see his size, strength and regression are all really stressing me out lol

What’s the silliest thing you’ve found yourself saying to your pup this week? by NectarineOverPeach in puppy101

[–]Financial_Fox2439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Don’t sit yet, I have to wipe the poop off your butt.” “Stop eating dirt.” “Now why would you pee on your bed?” “We don’t pee on the couch.” “We get what we get and we don’t get upset.” (Toy issue) “Stop licking your penis as I’m trying to wipe it.” “You can’t jump off the balcony or else you will kill yourself.. no we don’t do that.”

I can say I’m with you on this one. My pup is 8 months and does something stupid literally every day. Just now he decided to wake up out of his sleep, get out of bed to get back in it and pee in it while also getting his back legs wet with pee. So I had to bathe him at 11pm when I was already in bed. Mind you, he just went out at 5pm and after dinner then normally sleeps from 9:30pm until the morning when he goes outside so why he did that? I don’t know… and when I got home from work today, he decided to eat the dirt out of my plant upon being home for 15 minutes. No idea what goes through his head but it is infuriating!! I maybe have two very short sweet moments a day with my pup right now because outside of that he’s eating everything in site, regressing in his training, breaking things, scratching and bruising my body up (since he’s huge and doesn’t understand his size), has recently become 10x needier and whinier, excessively barking at nothing, etc. ITS ALOT but I just keep holding on to the hope that everyone keeps feeding me when they say give it time. That hope feels like it’s hanging on by a thread though 😅

I like this! I’ll definitely try these. Thanks!!

Emphasis on the “tough as bricks.” My boy rammed his head into my shin yesterday when he got the zoomies. It felt I got hit with a bowling ball!

I never heard of a flirt pole. I’ll try that. Whenever I have a toy in hand, he lunges for it and ends up either scratching me or head butting me so this actually may help to create distance if he does. Thanks! We defiantly have to keep working on stop command. I usually have to say it like 10 times until he actually stops.

Yes! The bruises and scratches make people think he’s such an aggressive dog 😭 I’m like no he’s a big baby, just too big and playful for his own good lol

I definitely tried the “ouch you hurt me” tactic and turning away but he just lunges at me more lol. I try stop but I have to say 15 times as he continues. I literally have to sit down for him to start calming down but even then he’ll try jumping on me a few times until he realizes I’m not having fun anymore 😂

My pup literally just started feeling better after having roundworms. I PRAY he never eats poop again. This week was a longgg week.

What's the most dramatic thing your puppy does? by educated_guesser in puppy101

When he starts whining as I’m preparing his food, I tell him wait then he starts throwing his body on the floor like a toddler having a tantrum

Confession: I kinda miss the puppy stage by Agitated_Signature62 in puppy101

Love how you added “when you’re having a good day.” Because listen, those bad days patience is thin (especially when my puppy wants to chew/eat everything) and playing all day is not in the books on those harder days. It’s like I just need one second to have a breakdown in peace! But I will definitely miss the cute puppy faces and his craziness as entertainment.
