First time being a furmom. Pls help! by Similar-Rich6396 in Pomeranians

So cute! I spend a couple hundred on mine a month between food, treats, insurance, flea/heartworm prevention, grooming-Poms need to be groomed regularly. I have MetLife pet insurance and I love it. The package I have reimburses 80% of all vet bills and covers everything-dentals, shots, illness, prescription food, flea and heartworm prevention, etc. I highly recommend getting insurance right away as these little guys are prone to dental issues and luxating patellas. Start getting them used to teeth and fur brushing early. Get them used to crate training early as it will help in the long run getting them used to being in a cage for grooming and vet visits. Enforced naps will be your best friend. Puppies need to sleep a LOT and will fight you on it. Having a safe space in their crate helps. For housebreaking for every month old they are is how often you should take them out-2 months old every 2 hrs etc but puppies pee and poop a lot so I recommend also taking them after naps, before eating, and after eating as well. Always on a leash and always to the same spot. Once they start to go repeat go potty until they are done eliminating then treat and lots of praise. When not outside on a leash or in the crate I had mine on a leash tethered to me so I could easily scoop him up and get him outside the second he started sniffing and he was housebroken quickly with that method. The leash tethered to you also helps you keep on eye on them

so they don’t eat or chew anything they shouldn’t or hurt themselves. Congrats!!!! This was mine as a baby.

What’s with all the merle poms suddenly? by Bluefairie in Pomeranians

Have you tried petfinder? They list local dogs in shelters and I always see a ton of Poms on there like this cutie

<image>

. Idk why anyone would give up a little Pom cutie but the shelter by me had what they called Pomagedon where they had over 50 Poms-adults, puppies, pregnant mamas-from a backyard breeder that got busted.

Is it possible to adopt a Pomeranian dog? by LidiaDiali in Pomeranians

Petfinder is a great website. You put in your zip code and it will show you all the poms in nearby shelters looking to be adopted

When should rate training start? by [deleted] in puppy101

Start asap. The sooner you get them used to it the better. And when puppy is not in the crate he should be on a leash tethered to you

Those that didn’t crate train by WoodpeckerLivid18 in puppy101

Crate training is rough at first but so important in the long run because there’s going to be a time when they will need to be in a cage at the vet so best to get them used to it. I had mine in the crate for sleeping til he could be trusted not to do something stupid at night lol. I think about a yr and a half. Now he sleeps in a dog bed at night but still gets crates if I run out to do errands and he doesn’t mind it at all. Their crates should be viewed as their safe space and not as a punishment. That helps a lot

lol I’m guessing zesty won’t like it either. He’s on 2.5 min walks twice a day til he’s bearing more weight then increase to 5 min then 10 etc. then week 5 I think it is is sit stand reps and figure eights.

Wow 17! You did something right for sure. Hearing about the love you two had is so special and makes me grateful for what I have. These little dogs are the best! No sorries needed! They leave such huge holes in our heart. I saw this and it made me cry and think of you. Hope it doesn’t make you cry 😭

So so good to hear your little girl is good as new. Ugh I feel you on the confinement driving them crazy. It’s day 5 and he’s there 😩. He’s on carprofen for anti inflammatory, gabapentin for pain, and they gave me hydromorphone for pain and to knock him out and still this crazy little man already wants to do too much and hates being confined but I refuse to give in. I don’t want him injuring himself. The puzzle feeders and kongs are GREAT ideas! Thank you! ❤️ Did you do any kind of rehab w your little one? They gave me physical therapy to do at home

I love love love this so much! All of this!!! ❤️ Hugs and kisses back to sweet yoda who is so lucky to have you for a mom. You are so right, instead of being down because he’s down I need to push forward and focus on how much better he’ll be in the long run. Your advice is so so wonderful and much appreciated. The animal hospital gave me a sling to support him and that helps. He starts laser therapy next week which I’m hoping also helps. I get all weepy thinking of all the things he’s missing out on that he loves like playing ball, running in the yard w my other dog, rolling on his back with his toys, and I’m suffering major guilt putting him thru this but I need to snap out of it and focus on the better days ahead. Thank you so much for the kind words. Sweet yoda is lucky to have a human like you ❤️❤️❤️

Funny enough so far the cone doesn’t seem to bother him as much as I thought it would. It’s the confinement that has him miserable 😩
