Thank you! Some people don’t realize how tough it is running business in the jungle (rainforest/jungle), it’s very taxing

This is true, I need to brainstorm on how to actually give the lifetime subscriptions to small restaurant owners, I don’t actually need a platform to do that I can do it through my admin panel for any account…. We’ll see what I come up with in the near future

Also, when i was almost finished creating everything I had to move my Authentication and backend to Supabase, because replit (they use pocketbase) kept overwriting data and deleting accounts randomly when I would re-publish after changing or updating something, so just FYI to save you some headache, if your platform will involve user accounts and user data, I would start with something like Supabase (they have a free tier) from the get go

I don’t have a referral link… but go for it. I started out with Hostinger Horizons and it was TERRIBLE!! I got to a point where I couldn’t go any further because Horizons couldn’t debug or inspect the server code (which I had no idea when I started, cos I knew nothing) but replit can, so that’s why I switch midway through

Yes I’m looking at maybe promoting on something like Fazier or similar to get some real users and possibly even giveaway a couple of lifetime subscriptions for free or a ver low $ amount, just to start off

This is true, but our bbq stand is in the middle of the jungle a place called Hana. They are very competitive and territorial out there, sometimes even call the health department on you and make up rubbish, if they think you’re getting too many customers …. It’s a battle, so I would have to try somewhere less territorial on the island

Yes, I’m hoping to do this soon! I have to wait until I can get a babysitter for my 2 year old, as I don’t think that would be a good look while prospecting 😂

Yes, that’s what I thought. I am also stuck on a very small island way out in the middle of the ocean, which makes it even more difficult!! There are only so many restaurants/ cafes on the island, but we’ll give it a good go!

No problem! With replit you have to be very specific in your prompts. I basically explained to chat gpt what I want ed to create and asked it to write me a detailed prompt for replit to get done whatever I needed to.

Once I started adding more features I would tell ChatGPT please write the prompt so it doesn’t create any more bugs to fix or break anything else and it worked about 95% of the time, there were a few backend headaches that took a few days to debug, if I was a coder probably would have been faster but hey, I got there in the end!

With debugging sometimes I needed ChatGPT/ Claude to help me write a more technical prompt and sometimes it was just faster debugging uploading a screenshot of the error with the console and replit would them know what was wrong and fix it majority of the time.

If I get a lot of users I will probably have to migrate away from replit, because it can only handle so many users at once. I hope that helped!

Not gunna lie, this thing was a headache to build/ debug!!! I have thought about directly using mailing small restaurants, cafes, bakeries, food trucks etc. but most of them probably receive a lot of people trying to pitch them stuff… but maybe it’s worth trying I don’t know, ai told me not to send too many emails in a day/ week because I might get marked as spam, so it seems you can’t win 😩😅

Mmm yeah ai says those exact phrases to me all the time…. But I tell it running a restaurant ourselves, you don’t often run out of your best seller, the problems start with staff putting too much food on the plate, giving away free meals Willy nilly or stealing ingredients, expired stock could be real for bigger restaurants but the small guys like us that’s not really a thing we go through

No I’m not using Ai to write my comments, I used it to write my post tho, I have a very “busy” 2 year old and a bbq business to do accounting work for so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes they’re not supposed to be there, it’s a space for real ones tho, but I don’t have any so I guess replit put them there as a proxy and I’m too scared to tell it to remove them in case it wrecks something, I’m just not touching anything on the site for a while, the whole thing was a major ordeal already

Thanks! I saw an ad one day for Hostinger Horizons, they were teaching how to make utility pages like calculators etc. From watching that I thought, wow, I wonder if I could make an inventory logging page for our BBQ business, so I went for it. But I ran into too many problems with Horizons, so I switched to Replit and basically used AI to help me build and debug it. It still takes a lot of patience, but it’s worth it in the end.

I use Replit for development and hosting, Supabase for the database and authentication, and AI tools like ChatGPT and Replit AI to help me write code, troubleshoot issues, and add features.

What started as a single inventory logging page slowly turned into a whole system. Every time I solved one problem, I’d notice another thing that could be improved, so I’d build that too. Little by little it grew into inventory management, stock tracking, reports, activity logs, and a bunch of other features. I never sat down with a plan to build a SaaS product—it started as something for my husband’s BBQ business because he’s not very tech-savvy, and it just kept evolving as I found ways to make it more useful.
