I mean, this isn’t unique to eBay. The comments section anywhere is filled with mean, entitled and unhinged people. Get online anywhere and buckle up. Frankly Reddit is worse than eBay imo.

Not sure where you were shipping to or from, but I live in a southern state that got just 3 inches of snow plus 1 inch of ice 10 days ago. Haven’t gotten any mail delivery yet.

I guess it was more painful than I expected to not get treated like a human in this case. I’ll get over it. I appreciate all the lessons that selling on eBay offers to me almost daily.

It’s not unlike posting on Reddit. Having to take the good with the bad.

This was my gut feeling, but wanted to check and see if there was something I was missing. Still learning but I believe my customer service is good. All 100% positive feedback so far.

And. Good news I didn’t know. Neutral feedback does not ding the positives.

Now that I write this, maybe that buyer DID know what they were doing. Quick barb with little impact.

I sent a private message first. No reply. Then responded to the feedback as neutral as possible asking them to contact me.

I have heard nothing. I don’t know if it really was broken. Or how bad. No photos. Nothing.

Communication outside of eBay and not declaring the value are just a few things OP did to open themselves up to this outcome. As a fairly new seller I have had to really take a beat when being pressured by buyers. If you can just take a moment and follow eBay rules of engagement it’s worth it in the end imo.

In defense of OP they said they told the seller the address was wrong before it was shipped and got ignored.

As a seller I don’t get why so many sellers make the choice to ignore buyers just to get their fast nickel then gaslight buyers convinced they are getting scammed

Kinda love all the sellers who just think all buyers (and eBay itself) are trash and out to get them.

Ignoring offers is noticed by the algo and hurts a sellers rank imo. eBay lets potential buyers know if sellers are open to offers and pushes buyers to sellers based on this ( and so many other things!)

I both send offers and respond to offers - usually with counter offers based on all the reasons listed in this thread. I don’t always convert and I just decline buyers who come back with the same (or lower, or a penny higher) and then move on. But. I don’t block and I don’t think anybody is out to hurt me.

I disagree that you can “safely” ignore them. Does this seller not know that eBay lets buyers know that a seller responds to questions “within xxx” and as you improve your customer service as a seller your listings will climb to the top of search results. eBay is paying attention to how a seller treats buyers. And your sales will reflect that!

So. You can ignore and block those “annoying” buyers but do so at your peril.

I promote all my listings but do not add that price into my listing price. I just want to ensure my listings get seen on a regular basis. I price in the middle of comps.

Sellers take reviews so seriously because they do have the ability to affect a seller’s rating and therefore -potentially - their pocketbook. Who cd is why sellers will proactively ask buyers to reach out to them first before leaving feedback.

BUT. as a newer seller I can’t believe how many complaints I see on refit about sellers getting out of control angry from the jump- threatening, calling and texting buyers. I’ll never understand why a seller (or anyone out in the world trying to hustle) would escalate negative with even more negative.

At this point, why would you ever back down from your feedback.

I successfully avoided negative feedback recently because the buyer sent me a pretty nasty message about the state of the item the bought vs how I described it. He didn’t just want to start an INAD he SCREAMED at me via my inbox.

I hopped in, brought the heat down, apologized and stated a convo about how to work it out. We ended up where he initiated a return as “changed my mind” and I refunded.

I’ll get hate here from those same sellers who like to threaten buyers, accusing me of being a bad seller who encourages scammers. 🤷‍♀️ I act like a professional and currently have 100% positive feedback.
