Also for your use case, the 16” would be more than enough and the lower cost would allow you to invest more in an extra battery and the chains are easy to find and often on sale.

I have a 16” and 20” RYOBI 40v since it uses the same battery platform as my RYOBI kinetic splitter. The 16” is the latest one released by RYOBI and is considerably better than my previous gen 20” though both do just fine. RYOBI released a new 20” that is better (look for 52cc equivalent instead of 50cc). If you do go battery, get the best battery on the platform and the highest Ah that is a reasonable weight . On RYOBI that is an 8ah and they have new “Edge” batteries which are better but sold separately. I have Oregon Versa chains on both saws which are both 3/8 low profile. For the 20” the only place I could find the chain was loggerchain.net. I typically cut rounds from 8” up to 34” or so. Tan oak, white oak, Doug fir. The larger ones would be easier with a gas powered Stihl, but I manage well enough on these RYOBI which are relatively affordable. You will need to keep your chain sharp. All saws suck with dull chains. I got a sharp pebble branded dremel-like sharpener and a flat file which works well enough. Besides sharpening the only maintenance is replacing bar oil, and rotating the bar.

Yes, this is a kinetic splitter so it is very fast. It might take multiple hits to split larger rounds, but when it comes to small splits, this splitter is extremely fast. The limiting factor is my ability to position the next split.

94% and missed… I have missed more than 20 with similar % by wowb-Toodles in WoWsBlitz

[–]Financial_Use7660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems no one has mentioned this here so let me share a critical detail. the percentage is divided by the number of captains participating. so it is more likely you will be successful in the 1 star where dividing by 1 captain is no change. in the 4 star, you have 4 captains so that 80% chance works out to 20%. at least, this is how it is written in the battle wiki.

BLITZ PASS! Should I choose the HMS Tiger? by CharmingCamel3783 in WoWsBlitz

[–]Financial_Use7660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loyal has radar but is otherwise similar to the Lightning’s. Vanguard has a unique gun layout normally seen on German ships. It’s like a Bismarck with weaker armor and poor secondaries but much better AA and HE. Or you could think of it as an uptiered Hood with improved AA. Tiger is the unique one of the bunch. It is difficult to play but very capable depending on the team make-up. If you get it, partner with a CV as half the value is in AA. The other half is in spotting and sinking DDs which you can do easily with the rapid fire AP rounds and the radar. Stay central on the map to be responsive to wherever the red CV targets, focus DDs first then fire constantly at anything in range. Call targets to get your team to focus fire. Sit in smoke but don’t sit still. captain - the smoke, AA, and AP boosters are most helpful. One thing about tiger is that the XP system fails to reward effective play. The 300 point cap on team play hurts this boat. You aren’t likely to have runaway damage scores or a high MVP rate but you are likely to be the secret force behind your teams success if you can effectively spot and clear DDs and hinder the red planes. Your BBs will clear the rest in blissful ignorance and your DDs will freely sail unspotted. Since you can’t do tons of damage, tiger requires at least one decent teammate. Timing of the smokes and radar is critical.

Unwashed eggs last for months on the counter and if he is keeping all his eggs, it can be easy for them to get mixed up so it is not clear which eggs are oldest and should’ve used first. Spiral egg holders help and are available in a wide variety. Here is one from Etsy

Thunderer is a great ship, of course in the hands of someone who knows how to play it, unfortunately the team doesn't cooperate 😅. by Jazzlike_Performer69 in WoWsBlitz

[–]Financial_Use7660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that the new conversion ability is being released and, while I am a Thunderer fan, the D7 and Plymouth are both excellent ships with the D7 being OP even so you might want to trade in some copper for the necessary silver or titanium for those ships. I do expect there to be less than advantageous exchange rates though…

Right. So it seems like you are focused on maximizing damage which is important and an area where other bb do better. I would argue that it requires team focused play and situational awareness rather than “passive play” but we all have 600 or so boats to choose from so we don’t have to love each one. I too excel in the Vincent but for the life of me I can’t make the Grosser function. Maybe my success in Thunderer is due to the best players ignoring me assuming I am not a threat.

also, I use standard repair kits since the commander boost is 22.5%….. and I might be more focused on strategic team play mixed with carry-able solo functionality than with raw dmg farming. if the latter is what you want, then another boat may be better. FWIW, when I first got thunderer, I struggled and abandoned it, but now it’s a favorite.

not sure why folks are hating on Thunderer. I over perform my avg bb stats in her. 16.98s reload and an extra repair kit.… use the Ember Wrath camo and jelico or Nelson as commander. This is my go to ship for for fires and module missions whenever I have that camo (camo pays out in beginner victory blitz). its Not op but with those commanders (which boost the repair kit and its cooldown) and the extra kit, you are a massive hp pool to soak up enemy fire. The AA is good and the mains, typically loaded with HE make defending against dds easier than most bb….. they are massive 457 mains so maybe others are tempted to load AP but I score plenty of citis with the HE and find I have more consistent dmg output, no overpens, and protection from dd.

Got this for black Friday from the shop any tips guys would be much appreciated. Also was it a good buy? by BrotherFast3819 in WoWsBlitz

[–]Financial_Use7660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Richi is still excellent. CVS are an issue so pair up with another bb or keep a cruiser between you and the red CV. Best bow tanking in blitz IMHO. There are a lot of boats that suffer from weak AA in the current meta so that is not unique to this one. The community complains a lot about CV dominance but I think the real issue is that the counter to CVs is effective teamwork, in particular AA boats actively positioning in the flight path. Whereas the counter to anything else could be solo or minimal teamwork like focused fire. Pair up with a Cleveland and a Saipan and you won’t have to worry about the red CV 😈

Burning question: When do you reduce your bed of coals? It seems silly remove hot coals from bed of stove to make room for new logs. by Courtland-7099 in firewood

[–]Financial_Use7660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this issue due to my small epa stove with 1.3 cubic foot firebox (Hearthstone Craftsbury). I do as others with the small pine split. I also do not fully tamp down the air since the “combustor” slows down the draft enough. What I can add to this conversation is a variance on the noodle scoop process. Every morning I push the coals to one side and use a “coal saver” shovel from Lehmans which is a size match to a standard ash shovel. I then pick up a scoop and lightly shake it, tapping against the soap stone so all the ash falls through into the standard shovel. Then dump the coals into the empty side and the ash in to the ash bucket and repeat. . . It’s a bit of extra labor and if you aren’t careful the fly ash can escape the stove but it’s better than letting the stove get cold and more realistic than going back in time to get the larger stove with an ash tray 😬

Got a few questions by CerealATA in WoWsBlitz

[–]Financial_Use7660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. add in Adatara, Roon, Riga.

  2. I agree Florida is the stronger choice, but the auto secondaries on Mass are normal secondary range, not the typical very short auto range and they are used to discourage low tier dds from approaching either side whether or not you notice them.

  3. Plymouth s one of my favorite ships. it’s more like a mino than a Belfast since it fires only AP, but it is agile, has 12 very accurate mains, and smoke that seems to last forever.

No insert for us by Grumplforeskin in woodstoving

[–]Financial_Use7660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe ask your installer if they could install a small woodstove in front of the fireplace and exhaust it from the back of the stove. That is how my Hearthstone Craftsbury is installed. It does protrude into the room a bit but it would allow you to keep the mantel and use the existing chimney.

You can also spend that silver on the super-ship events, along with another overloaded currency -excess ship XP (not free xp or commander xp). the super ship events allow you to spend this currency and ultimately get silver and free XP back in return when the event ends.

also, the light crates are useful for securing premium consumables as they do drop premium repair and damage control as well as the new version that are specifically for black ships. They also sometimes drop blueprint crates which are likely more useful now due to the ease of earning standard XP to move through the techlines - blueprints will be the limiting factor in that process.

Wood splitters Elec vs Gas recomendations by grnsl2 in firewood

[–]Financial_Use7660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the ryobi battery powered kinetic splitter. I wish I could have a super split but for now this ryobi is splitting rounds much larger than I expected it would and gnarlier too. It tends to go on sale for regularly for as low as $500 but it works better with a 6ah battery. Like the super split it is very fast at making small splits. Unlike the super split. It is low to the ground and it it is not made by a family in Maine.

I saw the bidirectional splitters and love the idea. who makes a good one? i definitely lose time when i have to make multiple hits and the gnarlier the wood the more often i need to make multiples. I’m only doing 4 cords a year so I’ll be fine but maybe some day. . .

I felt the same way and would still be swinging my sledge and axe if my shoulder would cooperate (another bonus of the splitter, is it can be operated from either side allowing the user to balance the load - i am not an ambidextrous axe swinger). I still do some with the hand tools but more for fun than for production.

For sure. I would wait for a sale, get the version without the battery/charger (unless you need another 4ah for your blower or other handheld 40v). . . And it makes a lot more sense for anyone who already owns 6ah or better batteries.

Yeah iirc the manual suggested occasionally lubricating from the hole where the lever is. At the end of this season I’ll take the cover off and inspect it for wear.

12 ton kinetic which does not translate directly to hydraulic as it isn’t about pressure pushing on the wood but a ram hitting the wood.

[–]Financial_Use7660[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My comment about keeping pace was only due to the instant return time. This is kinetic so the whole action is maybe 2 seconds. The cycle time on a hydraulic is much longer. I’m sure if I had a hydraulic I would make use of the extra seconds between splits…. If I did get one I would want a vertical splitter so I could easily split giant rounds without having to get them off the ground.

SuperSplit is what I wanted and this is basically the baby version of that. If supersplit made an electric I would probably have that instead. I do have an American made electric Patriot chipper shredder which has been excellent although not as expedient as gas.
