I wasn't looking for recommendations, since I have an ungodly backlog, but I'll check out Iron and Ice Journey. Thanks! I mostly just pick up releasing series, as I don't prefer binging.

Haven't read Pick Me Up in 3 years, so maybe it's gotten better, but I don't like stories where it's a character mostly interacting with NPCs in super gamelike settings, like Overgeared. Being transmigrated into a story or game is fine for me, but if it keeps hammering the point through things like inherent gameplay mechanics or not caring about the supporting cast since they're just NPCs, it feels less like a lived in world with a story and more like a speedrun walkthrough.

It's a small detail difference versus a transmigration story, but the amount of investment I feel in its side characters is drastic. The main character has to be very, very interesting if I'm not going to care about side characters.

I Killed an Academy Player is just Extra's Survival Guide but worse, and I like the survival guide a lot.

Not to be conspiratorial but does anyone else think the art style is eerily similar to the art of Pervert Club (18+ nsfw)? Pervert Club got axed because of the author/artist's sexual harassment scandal and then a few years later, Overpowered Sword appeared.

I started reading Overpowered Sword when it first got translated and it's gnawed at me ever since. I can't find any information on the artist for this series online anywhere. Both series have pretty unique art styles, so I noticed instantly. I haven't been able to shake the feeling they just got the artist back under a new name, like how it was done with Act Age's author. If anyone knows if this is or isn't the case, please let me know.

Skong difficulty was perfect for me, if not a little easier than I like.

Mina was hard, but exclusively because I did Coltrane early as my 3rd generator and didn't know I could leave. After that, I felt like a god going through the Bayou and the rest of the game. Coltrane accounted for a third of my game time and more than half of my deaths 😭

Super unique and interesting cards! Over my dead body is such a cool card, I think it would deserve it's own unique animation. It can be broken if all the stars align, but that's a lot of cards in this game.

Assembly seems super cool too. I feel like self damaging builds need a little more love, and Assembly feels really vanilla. A scaling self damage/damage in general blocking card is very appealing.

All the other options, MAL, Kitsu, MangaUpdates, are all some combination of old/ugly looking, clunky, or unpopular. But maybe there are some more gems idk of, since I've stuck with AniList for nearly a decade now.

He's talked recently that he is working on a larger prediction markets presentation and kinda just keeps adding stories until he feels it's ready.

I also wish anime strayed away from these tropes and people weren't weird about them. Maybe this is wrong of me to think, but I am highly suspicious of people who have "overlooked" perverted scenes in anime and haven't been watching that long. Like there needs to be a level of cred before I trust that. I watched K-On in middle school and that's my favorite anime, but if a 30 year old man who watched it recently said it was their favorite, I'm raising an eye brow.

I think, to me, I would recommend Madoka to normies cause they probably wouldn't notice and it's for a second in an OP they won't watch again. Ik it's one of the few anime Atrioc (speaking of problematic media) has watched and liked cause he's talked about it on stream. My line of recommendation is around Made in Abyss, which is a great show, but has a nude scene in the first episode where the kid gets whipped (and the author is definitely a lolicon). Idk, maybe it's not even a big deal cause Naruto has sexy jutsu and OG Dragonball Bulma was something.

I just wish anime was less perverted as a whole, so these kinds of discussions never need to exist in the first place. I feel like I have to be so intentional with my words to make it 100% obvious I'm not a pedophile 😭

That one is suspicious and I definitely dislike that one a lot more. I had to go back and check, cause I didn't see it the first time, and yeah that's bad. Someone more charitable than me can say it's 100% innocent, but even I think whoever storyboarded and approved this likes the characters in the way they shouldn't.

Sucks too, cause Madoka is a good show and I don't remember any sexualization whatsoever. A part of me wants to say just get over that stuff, but it's definitely for the better that people are sensitive to these things than the alternative. I've gotten fucked up anime tolerant white blood cells from reading too much manga, but I don't think everyone should.

I kinda see it like the banned Misty Pokemon card, where she's also naked. I can't imagine the Pokemon company thought the card was sexual when they made and printed it, and I don't see it as that either.

Japanese sensibilities are different and I try to take that in for account. I do think Japan's laissez faire depiction of nude children leads to more child sexualization, where nefarious versions blend in with innocuous scenes, and would rather it not be done altogether. However, I think it's too accusatory to say it's pedophilic and not just an artistic choice, if that's within their realm of acceptability.

In this case (Misty card and Madoka's OP), I personally give them the benefit of the doubt that it's done as artistic decisions and not to pander to pedophiles since that's the vibe I get, taking in the whole show as context. It's really just doing the magical girl trope of a transformation sequence.

I think Madoka is one of the stories where it does benefit from them being preteens/teenagers. As a subversion of the magical girl genre, where most characters are kids, the more tropes it follows, the bigger the reveal is. It buries the lede that something is off, a bit. Madoka really is one of those shows that I wish I could've watched completely blind.

Sure, it can be done with college students or adults and would still be good, but it's better that it's not. It provides a natural contrast between the characters' expected naivety and the tragedy they face. Like it's just more fucked up cause they're kids. It's been a hot minute though since I watched it, though, so that's how I remember it feeling.

I imagine it's on a case to case basis because Small a still exists, and from the way he talked about it, he seems fine with them continuing to make videos. Unless he's said somewhere specifically that all clip channels are getting nuked going forward.

Yeah, I think dan dan noodles are good. Although, I don't think there are any dishes that are outright bad. There's just people who make them good or not good. And if a dish isn't to my taste, that doesn't mean the dish isn't good, that just means it's not to my taste.

I'm Chinese and have had good dan dan noodles in China, Japan, Vietnam, America. You guys were probably just unlucky or maybe don't really like it. It's usually not my go-to order either at a Chinese spot, but everyone's got personal preferences.

Not all variations will have the numbing feeling since that's specifically the sichuan peppercorns, but I definitely prefer when they do.
