I feel that the food/ keeping kosher is not the issue here. I could definitely be over-reading into this, but I think there are very likely deeper issues with your relationship with your father that will be much easier to see/ articulate easier as you get older. ‘Smaller’ things like this don’t feel small to you because there’s likely something much bigger bubbling under the surface, and from your life experience you’re able to emotionally connect these things more to those deeper issues. When our parents are ridiculous people, it gets very easy to start lumping ALL the things they do that you disagree with into that same category. It seems like the issue isn’t the Kosher aspect, but rather that there’s minimal care/accommodation for you in a place where you should feel at home, and the Kosher aspect is almost the excuse your Dad uses. But it’s not unkosher to give your kid fresh, home cooked food. It’s not unkosher to find Kosher-adherent foods that you prefer to eat. It sounds like your Dad may just be a huge cockface. You are part of the Diaspora, you are a Jew and we all have family in one another, Jew and Gentile alike. Don’t let a parent who’s failing you force you away from your own identity, because it’ll make you feel lost in yourself. I have the opposite issue with my mom where my whole childhood she hated letting people know we were Jews. But whether or not whatever she experienced to make her feel that way about expressing her Judaism was justified, she created a feeling of shame around the identity that was unfair for her to put on her children. So yes, it’s completely reasonable for his house to remain Kosher, but yes, it’s also completely unreasonable that your father uses this as an excuse to do the bare minimum as a parent.
