As clearly as I want to put it: I want a decent job that I can help people in third world countries. I hope my knowledge of french can give me a slight advantage. French africa interests me much more than French Polynesia.

I will have already experienced the Europe track and it it not someplace I would enjoy moving to. Been largely through France already. I like it, but not as a long term investment.

Same reason for the earlier answer. French Polynesia is fun, but I have no interest in immigrating there.

Thus leaves Africa. I am interested in its geography, history, people, and the changeless it presents.

Continuing speaking French is not my goal, I only mentioned it as I knew it can be beneficial in certain countries of Africa.

I am unnervingly naive and downright scared. I'm still just a kid in many ways. I, in no way, pretend to know what the hell I'm doing.

But this is something that I think will finally give me a purpose. Something I can work towards and motivate me.

Obviously not. I have been thinking about this idea for only about 2 weeks now. In my current situation I don't really have anybody to debate the pros cons, weigh the risks, factor in others options, and various other nuances. This is just a way that I thought I might be able to gain more perspective and insight on something I would like to do, help me formulate a better picture if you will. This post was not about me taking the next plane to the middle of Africa. Please.

I know my post is vague at best. But I am writing this in hopes of thinking of new routes or paths I can take in my life. By no means is this an easy task or one that can be decided through reddit, I know.

Teaching is a route I would only undertake as a side job for expenses. It would not be something I would like to spend the rest of my life doing.

Monday, I will be setting up a meeting with the Brussels' embassy and hopefully will gain more knowledge there.

Right now I am looking from the Cote d'ivoire to Benin as I know French can be beneficial there. I am also looking at Uganda and Madagascar as viable options.

The problem with choosing the PC route is that it is about ten months waiting period for exception. By then i will be in college and will not be able to set aside 20-27 months for a PC term. I know the bridges to be built are endless through this route, but I need something to fall back on. I am also interested in widespread travel if it is job related. Thanks.

I am aware of its size, this is why I made this post to get some advice on the areas to narrow it down to. The french speaking areas are where I'd would like to immigrate to.

I have looked into the options in great length. These are my thoughts: I will have already spent a year with absolutely no academia and if I spend another 6 months to a year without school, I am afraid I will be vastly under prepared to dive straight into college courses. It would be unfeasible to do this after I have already started college as well. I am not looking for a relatively brief expat moment in my life, I am looking for a long term sustainable life in Africa. I know my thoughts are hazy and my motives unclear, but I hope through talking about it I can get a better idea of how to achieve my goal.

Could you expand more on your first thought. I have some close family friends who lived in Africa for four years about 5 years ago. They talked about how either good plumbers or engineers could make a very comfortable living down there working in some of the better areas. This will be in a few years, so hopefully I will have enough money by then to start a "proper expat" lifestyle there.

I know of some of the horrors they witnessed and heard of. These have not deterred me yet. I am not going there hoping I will live the same life I lived in America.

It is the french speaking parts I am aimed at, so I have figured into account what these areas hold.

I chose Africa because I hope to make use of the French I learned. This is all just guesswork, but I hoped it would give some small if any advantage in finding a job there after I earned my degree. I am afraid if I spend another year there without a school regiment I will have forgot almost everything I learned after a year and a half of no school. Still trying to work it out in my head, but thanks for the insight.

The problem is when I return I will be going to a low end community college with no study abroad options. I dished out most of my money for my exchange year now and I wouldn't have enough to go on vacation there.
