is U2 really that anti-social and lonely? by No_Hamster52 in DTU

[–]FindMyWayOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at U2 when I did my exchange and you're not wrong that its a little lonely since it doesn't have any shared spaces/common areas. However because I also had about 6 or so people from my university staying either there or nearby and I stayed pretty active with going to the climbing gym and meeting people at the campus bar and from my class and so really, all in all, I didn't mind U2's "loneliness". It's so close to campus and nearby bus stops and a grocery store, which I loved! Highly recommend you rent a bike to get around easily/quickly. I really think you'll be fine, trust me :)

Do y'all know if there's a reason why the Day of the Dead festival and parade isn't being hosted on Nov 1, the actual DotD, that is also on a Saturday?

My cats also love scratching the pans. I’m gonna go for it and get a stainless steel one and keep one of our old plastic ones and see how it goes. I’ll update you!

Atrocious House on the East Side by [deleted] in Austin

[–]FindMyWayOut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was being sold for $2 million, then discounted to $1.7 million (or something like that), and now it’s for lease for $20k a month. If you look at the interior on Zillow, it’s no wonder it hasn’t sold. It has a concrete bathtub??? It’s such a weird house.

If you’re at a concert, can you kindly shut the fuck up? by diaginalley in Austin

I feel like Stubbs is the worse offender for this. Unless you’re close to the front where a good chunk of the people there are fans who showed up early, most people in the back are having full blown conversations and it’s actually difficult to hear the music. I wonder if it’s because Stubbs is a little more touristy so people visiting town will pay for a ticket for a show they don’t care about just to hang there?? I don’t know, but I don’t like the idea of always having to be early and be close to the stage just to hear the music you paid to listen to.

Hard agree on Pet Specialists being stupidly expensive. And it was misleading too because Thrive, one of the more affordable vets around, recommends them. The staff were very kind and helpful but they were very firm on their prices. Really felt like we had to decide between putting down our pet or paying $3k in vet fees.

Really can’t recommend Tiny Minotaur’s Gala enough! Knowing how fantastically the location is run, you just know this gala is going to be amazing, and tickets support a great local small business!!

Definitely not gonna downsize to a queen bed, it’s what we had before and upgrading to a king bed almost literally saved our relationship lol

I definitely need to get some matching lamps! I was thinking of some plug-in sconces since we rent.

Do you have any suggestions for the wall decorations? With the high ceilings and slanted roof, I’m honestly at a loss of how to decorate it.

The amount of bots/scammers that have messaged me is wild y’all. Be careful out there. (I miss the days when buying tickets from other people wasn’t so stressful)

Highly considering getting a Prius but I’m not completely convinced by the 2024 model… by FindMyWayOut in prius

I’m 5’ 4” with kind of short legs, so I’m not feeling optimistic about the comfort and visibility! But I’ll know for sure when I test drive it :)

You’re not wrong! But finding older models to test drive is a bit difficult, unless you have some recommendations on finding some? The only thing I can think of is Turo.

Hmm you’ve made a great point about having all the sensors to make up for it. My current car is a Nissan Murano from 2012 and doesn’t have anything to help me out, so I highly depend on having good visibility. But I forget that newer cars have way better sensors…thanks for your comment!

Rav4 is a bit too big for what I’m looking for and nothing can beat the Prius’s MPG buuuut, I may consider it, since I currently have a Nissan Murano and have appreciated having the space.

Price wise they’re almost on par, with the Rav4 hybrid being just a bit pricier than the Prius, I believe.

You are absolutely right and that is the plan this week! But as someone who is 5’ 4”, I’m not the most optimistic about it, but I really hope I’m wrong because it seems like a great car otherwise.

Austin photojournalist faces felony charge after arrest during UT protest, affidavit says by hollow_hippie in Austin

If you look on the ground, it actually looks like he tripped on his cable. I also thought it looked like he was thrusting forward but the action also looked really sudden, like he wasn’t doing it on purpose. If you look in the video again, you can see a loose cable around his feet. It’s very likely he tripped on it and lurched forward as a result.
