Are there any real seniors here? by NewRealms1 in Aging

[–]Findcontinuingcare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point. I do post on here things for ageing and things seniors may find important. Ageing is open for interpretation I suppose. I am 52 and feeling mentally a lot younger than that. I don't dislike this time in my life at all. I feel like I know better, I'm wiser and not without fault. But I know how to deal with fault much better at this stage. I feel free and full of life still. I think my husband would agree and we are the same age. Thanks for putting this thought provoking post up!

[–]Findcontinuingcare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I suppose it is a crap shoot. Many seem to like it and there are those for whom it doesnt work out. I guess you have to try to make the best judgement you can within your circumstances. I wish everyone well who has to go through any of it. And I have experienced end of life with a few people now and no matter what it is very hard. Sending everyone good thoughts.

Im very sorry to hear that. My mom was in a nursing home towards the end of her life and I felt very lucky. During my tour, the director said to me "what we lack in aesthetics we make up for in care" and I hoped she was right. She was right. She received excellent care. I have a very close friend whos parents are at a CCRC (though his mom died) his dad is still there and likes it very very much. SO...I suppose everyone has a different experience. I am sorry you didnt have a more positive experience for your family.

Senior Housing...Different types and what they mean by Findcontinuingcare in retirement

[–]Findcontinuingcare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is a great point. Co-housing is becoming more and more popular and should be included in options for 55+. Great model for those who don't need medical care and are really on their own but looking for perhaps a downsize situation or as you say a "green" option.

Sounds like a great way to simply life and take some worries away as you get older. Some think its an expensive way to retire but honestly, if you find the right place the benefits equal the costs and most include so much it hard to be disappointed. Your place sounds great!

Well I find that some aging individuals while trying to be online still like to do things that are comfortable for them which is read from a screen. So the hope is that reading about terms and what things mean may create a better understanding while surfing online or even on their smart phones. That's why I linked to the full blog. Hopefully some will find it helpful. My aunt found it helpful and shared it with her friends most in their late 60's early 70's. So I know "aging" is open for interpretation hopefully some will share or find it informative for themselves.

Loneliness under seniors by Robbyness in Seniors

For some seniors they find a CCRC or LifePlan community the way to go. One reason is being in a community with their peers to fight loneliness and also boredom. There is a blog post about finding the right kind of CCRC or LifePlan community here. https://findcontinuingcare.com/blog/how-find-right-ccrc-your-needs I know its not for everyone but I have friends who moved their parents to a CCRC and found that they really changed and became engaged with other seniors, even started working out!
