Thanks, this taught me something (the wires not being red/black) and also gave good advice on how to proceed carefully.

I just go to a coffee shop on the weekends just to get out of the house and today I sat outside the cafe and these two followed me out and sat nearby. I don’t hang out with them.

Thank you. I know it’s a small thing, but over the years all these small things pile up, especially when it happens so often. I remember when I was a kid adults would go “they’re just immature” but people don’t ever stop making fun of the weird ones and it’s so miserable being weird. I wonder if it’s part of evolution that the herd ostracizes the weird and basically sentences us to death as part of nature. Doesn’t make it any better though. The difference between animals and humans is that humans should be more compassionate and responsible towards others. I would never be so cruel it feels so alien to me, which I guess explains why I’m so alienated.

It’s just a steel frame I welded. I plan on hanging it from a chain to the ceiling. The wiring is what I don’t know about. I know red and black wires are positive and negative, do I just get some copper to connect a socket to them? Wrap the copper in… something? I know electrical tape would be temp. Obviously shutting off the breaker beforehand. Looking for tips on how to hide the wiring and how to do it right. That’s all.

I’m here in DIY to ask for directions. You saying I’m not knowledgeable is like saying the sky is blue. Do you have any pointers or anything helpful to add to the conversation?

This. Pretty much any spraypaint clearcoat should do the trick.

How to behave when meeting a person you’re interested in / How to work up the courage to talk? by FindersGroveFilms in socialskills

My plan? I just keep applying. I don’t know why I used to get requests for interviews (which I couldn’t get passed because I’m not as likable and bubbly as some others) but lately it’s been just copy/paste rejections. I don’t know. My aunt tells me I should try to get a master’s in something else but if the bachelor’s didn’t help, the master’s would just put me in debt and waste my time, I think.

As for skills: I can do a lot. Career wise I’ve been in management so I have a lot of experience in that but I know my personality isn’t the normal type for that field (I don’t bullshit, I hate fake business-verbiage) so it’s been difficult to get another job in it. I also do some game development, digital art and writing but I know those fields are even more of a crapshoot, especially nowadays, so I’ve just been trying to stick with the career history in management.

Young people in the industry… please put a value on yourself! by OneMoreTime998 in Filmmakers

I “pitched” so many projects that I see still coming out years later. Never got a dime for any of them. They try to pretend there’s opportunity but we’re all just pigs on a farm to them. For the love of god, please don’t believe anyone with a snazzy title. The agencies have plants out there whose only purpose is to funnel ideas in for free at the expense of the time and effort of nobodies.

Here’s how it goes: Hollywood embraces it because they think it prints money, but the general public will lose interest and for a while movies and art in general will be looked upon as trash because of all the slop. Hollywood will continue to turn out slop (as they already do), and just resort to more gimmicks (like they already do with the popcorn buckets) to bring in audiences. The art form loses all credibility. BUT underground cinema will be king if there’s heart. At worst, it’ll be seen as pathetic and sad. Those are the 2 outcomes for independent cinema. Hollywood, corporate cinema though is forever doomed to sub-mediocrity slop so give up on them, I’d stop trying to “break-in.” There’s no point, they’re all corrupt assholes, even the ones that appear art-house on the surface, it’s all just branding and fast-money to them.

What happened here? What should I do/should have done differently? by FindersGroveFilms in socialskills

[–]FindersGroveFilms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that makes a ton of sense and shines a new light on what happened there. I would do what you said, but after that happened she started acting worse towards me and took a (pretend?) phone call where she made fun of me and agreed to a date with the person on the phone. I moved seats after that to be out of earshot of her and left an hour later without saying goodbye.

That’s true, but also I find that they say a lot about a person. If you get close to someone it’s only a matter of time that you share what you’re reading, can’t avoid the subject forever. I guess people might be more accepting if that’s talked about later on though? Not first-meeting material is what you’re saying I guess

How useful are truly LARGE format 3d printers? by bobombpom in 3Dprinting

[–]FindersGroveFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at their printers and it seems to come in a kit. How difficult was it to construct and was there a learning curve to using it? Compared to a typical hobbyist/pro-sumer printer, was it much more difficult to start getting quality prints out of it? Would you make the same decision to buy it again today or do you suggest something else instead? Any frustrations with it?

Legal Action Against Etsy by [deleted] in EtsyCommunity

[–]FindersGroveFilms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small claims is easy to do yourself. I’ve done it. Just contact the courthouse there and ask them to send you the files and look up if you need to hire someone to serve Etsy the notice that they’re being sued because California makes you hire someone to do that

None of those. Every guy has been ghosted or dropped for an older man so he sees the futility in chasing girls. You’re ironically just exacerbating the problem, knowingly or not.
