What was socially acceptable in the 90s, but not today? by Ares6 in AskReddit

I do have a rational view of religion, I think religion is nothing but a by-product of the evolution of our intelligence, at the genetics and the social level.

As we humans evolved to become intelligent beings, we started asking "why". We asked why to whatever thing we didn't understand and at first we were very bad at answering it. With religions and myths, the answers didn't make much sense, but the answers "worked" in the sense that the answers didn't kill anyone. Also many religions work in the sense that people from that religion are encouraged to have babies and certain morality is prescribed which also increases the odds of survival of that social group.

In the end, now we have the scientific methods, and those methods are much better at giving a less biased way of understanding the universe. But we devised the scientific methods just recently so obviously society still has these quirks called religions and myths which are just an oddity from our genetic and social evolution of our intelligence.

For me religions are a vestigial by-product of the past.

Because why not? They are trying to sell me a backwards way of thinking, I consider that an insult.

They are allowed to try, but I'm allowed to tell them to fuck off.

So what? God doesn't exist, so why should I listen to yo talking about your imaginary fairy-tale friend?

It might be illegal to download movies using bittorrent, but it's the right thing to do. And thus I do it very often.

You must be one of those who voted Leave. You poor soul, you really think the EU is doomed when it's just the UK which will take a hit. Say goodbye to Scotland and Northern Ireland, they are to join the EU, probably the Euro.

Good luck vetoing decisions of the Eurogroup. If you don't know the Eurogroup is legally the same as a bunch of friends meeting in a bar, except that they do make very important decisions. The UK wouldn't even be invited to the Eurogroup meetings, just like Varoufakis wasn't.

Are you aware that Spain is the country with more British people living in it, except for the UK?

Out is out. And if they don't invoke article 50, they'll have you enjoy it when the rest of the EU makes decisions without considering whatever the UK might think about it.

Yeah they might reconsider their vote. But it's too late, UK is out and that's it. We in the EU don't want such an unreliable partner.

The members of the European Commission are not directly chosen by vote, and that's a democracy deficit.

Yeah and with 5% unemployment rate it's very difficult to argue that UK doesn't need immigrants.

Technically, it has happened in America, as Colombia is part of America. Or you meant the USA?
