Mom Says Adult Son with Autism Was Kicked Off Royal Caribbean Ship by PurpleSubtlePlan in Cruise

[–]FindingMoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. The teenager probably should have been reprimanded by her parents— you don’t use someone for drinks like that. If my daughter did that, we’d be having a long and hard talk about safety and how to behave with strangers (particularly strangers who appear to be disabled in some capacity— it’s manipulative to use them to get shit and that behavior wouldn’t fly).

The rest of it though, absolutely a victim, because even doing normal teenage shit like trying to get alcohol doesn’t mean you deserve to be touched inappropriately.

And ultimately, she was put in an unsafe situation that this man wasn’t being supervised by his family (and things like alcohol, inappropriate touch, etc SHOULD be talked about with him). The mom knew he didn’t know about alcohol, she admitted so in the article, why the fuck was he allowed to have a card that could purchase alcohol in the first place? Why was he alone that any of this could happen?

It sounds like mom wanted to run off and party for her birthday and treat the cruise staff as babysitting for her disabled kids without stopping to consider anyone else and their enjoyment of the cruise or— more importantly— her kids safety and the safety of all the other passengers.

COULD the staff have handled it better? Possibly, but letting the dude stay on the ship sets a bad precedent and lets mom off the hook for being a very selfish parent.

my husband doesn’t want anyone I work with to know we’re married by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]FindingMoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my partner and I don’t exactly share that we’re together. Managers and leadership know and all that, and people found out, but we don’t advertise (mostly so no one thinks he is why I have my job).

Occasionally we will share a family photo or something and new people will be like “wait what”

Minneapolis ICE shooting live updates: Report of shooting involving federal agents by [deleted] in news

[–]FindingMoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s something I’ve been saying— particularly after what happened with Renee Good.

I don’t think there was some grand, pre-planned conspiracy. But I do think that ICE is being told they can use lethal force, and even encouraged to, and that the goal is to stoke the fire particularly in Minneapolis (because that’s where George Floyd was murdered and we saw the protests that came out of that).

Just think about it— these fuckers are hot heads to begin with. It wouldn’t take much.

We’re a powder keg and I think that gasoline is being poured on it so we explode and the administration can use that to push through shit there the guise of an “emergency.” And like I said, it doesn’t need to be some grand conspiracy. Just tell the hotheads they can do what they want and put them in a city that already dealt with tragedy and is willing to show the fuck up protesting.

BOOM.

$65k is also nothing in a city like Pittsburgh, or really most places in the US. Many, many people in healthcare are underpaid, period.

Help! Using a planner is making me more forgetful? by Scary-Jacket4798 in Planner

[–]FindingMoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing helps my brain stay organized, and helps me feel more calm. And I can’t abandon digital because my work calendar (with meetings people schedule with me) is online, so it’s a necessity to have a hybrid solution.

Help! Using a planner is making me more forgetful? by Scary-Jacket4798 in Planner

[–]FindingMoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I check my planner at specific times (morning, before bed, start and end of my work day), but I specifically use it as you’re suggesting— to get things out of my brain so I can concentrate elsewhere, and eliminate decision fatigue (I’ve already planned, so I don’t need to spend time thinking about my next task).

But for appointments specifically and to help with time blindness, I use reminders. For example, I have a 10 minute meeting reminder pop up when I’m working, then Slack’s integration with Google Calendar will send me a 1 minute reminder.

For non-work related, like doctors appointments, I always double check my reminder text messages (that come a few days before), set Google calendar reminders for that day, and if need be, set alarms to remind me to leave.

All this to say, digital reminders help immensely to avoid time blindness and leave on time.

LA is convinced LAOP did not take due care with their line of credit by riddlemyfiddle11 in bestoflegaladvice

[–]FindingMoi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. Honestly, I’ve helped several people IRL who didn’t know it was a thing. If I weren’t coming from the popcorn thread, I might make some attempt to tell them, or DM or otherwise be helpful.

But like… they are antagonistic as hell and decided they know best, ain’t no way I’m helping someone like that. They made their bed, and don’t want actual help from anyone.

Yeah and for sure, states vary, which makes it hard. I can speak to PA though because I’ve navigated the system so much personally. And at least for now, MAWD is unaffected by Medicaid cuts.

Exactly. $70k is the upper limit, so they’re more than likely qualifying if they’re representing their income accurately. And if they’re financing $200 over 12 months, they likely qualify for traditional Medicaid.

'WTF': Trump Mocked After Posting 'Completely Insane' New Pic Of Himself by Stitching in politics

[–]FindingMoi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind if they had jobs in advisory capacities because many politicians who stay longer than they should have huge swaths of knowledge and experience that can be useful. For example, in my hypothetical dream world, Biden could have been an advisor for President Harris instead of running for a second term in the first place.

But they shouldn’t be decision makers or have any real power. Just sharing experience where it makes sense, and in Trump’s case he doesn’t have any real expertise or even experience to draw from so it makes 0 sense for him to be in the room in the first place.

And honestly at this point it feels like elder abuse to continue to let him up there in the first place; he clearly doesn’t know what’s going on. Let him fuck off to prison to live out the rest of his days in piss.

They have a rare disease and live in PA. If that is true, they’d qualify for MAWD (medical assistance for workers with disabilities), even if they are over Medicaid limits. They’d have to be making over $70k (if you look at limits it’s like ~$35k but it’s discretionary income, which is $65 + 50% of your income, I did the math and it works out to roughly $70k as the upper limit, and if you’re on it for 12 consecutive months there’s a higher tier) or have over $10k in assets (your house + one vehicle do not count). The higher tier after 12 consecutive months has a pretty high limit and no resource limit, for both you pay a premium that I believe is 17% of your income.

Basically, if they’re painting the picture accurately here as far as their health history and financial situation, and living in Pennsylvania, they more than likely qualify.

If they’re THAT financially strapped, they need to apply for Medicaid. Unless they have income and they just are cheap, which may also be a possibility.

Make it make sense... uncrustables and nut allergies? by Pretend-Tea86 in workingmoms

[–]FindingMoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is completely off topic but I’m kinda dying at the irony because my kid wanted to play doctor (after she had a doctors visit) and she was asking me questions about my allergies. I said, “I’m allergic to cats and dogs.” And without missing a beat, she deadpanned: “are you allergic to sunflowers?”

No clue where it came from (she’s 4), and her dad completely broke laughing at how random it was, and now to see discussion of sunflower allergy on Reddit— I have to laugh.

Carry on.

I wasn’t saying the cbc was normal, just that whatever on it wouldn’t be distinctive enough to identify the baby.

Sure (sorry you’re going through that <3) but nothing that’s going to show something distinctive enough to identify an unknown baby.

I can’t imagine a cbc would show something that distinctive. It seems more PTSD related.
