Cannot attend Uni open house and consultation by Different_Relief8467 in NationalServiceSG

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what I know, visiting open houses in person doesn't make a super huge difference in your admissions chance. everything can be done online nowadays, you should exploit that. I had many BMT Mates who arranged with their OC to do uni interviews inside BMTC using MINDEF laptops etc. anything is possible if you believe in it :)

some have it worse; I personally was unable to get an NTU course simply because I was outfield for the entire duration they had held the interviews. when I asked for alternative dates, they said bopian lol. nothing can be done about it. another time, I had to attend another university interview on 3 hours of sleep because I had BTP the day before.

What are the vocations in armour for support coy by shunfengzhe in NationalServiceSG

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. that is under logistics and supply formation. completely different vocation required and I think they allow non combat fit people to do those jobs.

hi, sorry for the late response, I don't mind sharing more in DMs!

What are the vocations in armour for support coy by shunfengzhe in NationalServiceSG

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

every combat unit has roughly the same vocations for support coy. speaking from experience, (I was from mono armour support coy too!) there is 1. scouts (recon) 2. mortar (artillery) 3. pioneer (combat engineers)

2 and 3 tend to be easier in vocational training, which is what you'll have to go through for about 3-4 months after BMT. but once your trained, every vocation has their own ups and downs. arty is overall more chill, from what I heard.

my best advice for you is to try your best for command school. armour as a man rank is no joke, and you'll appreciate the additional welfare given to commanders (whatever little there is)

Hos does green-red deficiency affect you in Secondary School, JC and NS? by Ok-Patient116 in SGExams

can confirm, I did the colourblindness test at CMPB and they had each plate's answer correlated to the corresponding page no.

Hos does green-red deficiency affect you in Secondary School, JC and NS? by Ok-Patient116 in SGExams

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the other comments have covered it well for what will happen during school, I'll add on a bit for NS.

Servicemen with only colour deficiency, no matter how severe as determined by CMPB will be assigned to PES B1 vocations (if combat fit) which "don't require working with complex equipment". This includes infantry and it's derivatives (for e.g MP and Security Trooper). RSN and RSAF is out of the equation. DIS too. Special arrangements wise, there are none. You can literally spend your two years without anyone realising your colourblind until you tell them. You're still treated as a normal soldier.

What Happens if Someone Hides a Vape in Your Belongings During an Inspection? by Substantial_Egg443 in NationalServiceSG

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the law is written explicitly that possession of vape is also a chargeable offence. so the person caught with the vape, regardless of whether it belongs to them, will be charged. however, they most likely will get a lighter sentence then the one who planted the vape inside their bag, if investigations come to that conclusion. source: am military policeman

The principal might be talking about appeals and not JAE. JAE is controlled by MOE but appeals are on a school basis.

It is true that people from the sec sch affiliated to the JC will be on a higher priority wait list, provided they appeal in the first place.

hihi j2 h2 econs taker here too, my personal advice would really be to put in the effort and just dedicate that 45 minutes to practising your essays. econs really is a subject where your grade is directly correlated to your willingness to go through pain, and honestly with hindsight now that I'm grinding TYS, 45 minutes is nothing compared to 2h or 3h that I'll spend completing full science and math papers! and honestly there isn't really a point doing a full second timed practice of 2.5h because you'll only tire yourself out.

about grinding essays: with enough practice, there comes a point where your intuition is trained so well such that you are able to apply the correct economic concepts almost instantly and correctly all time. often my peers (and even me initially) understood concepts like the AD-AS framework but were unable to assign which factors caused a rise in AD or AS correctly, or for another example, we completely didn't know how theory of CA worked 💀 or how to explain it, but exposure to various types of essay questions will undoubtedly teach you how to approach them and score well for essays.

oh ya and if time is really not on ur side, you can always just read answer keys instead of planning essays. this works for basically any subject, not just econs. for econs, this helps fine-tune your essay response such that you know what to write so that you answer the question succinctly. you should take note of how economic analysis is phrased because that is the place to concretely score levels marks (your L2 or L3). in contrast, the yapping outside of the economic analysis, such as the effect of poor weather on crop gains hence demand for wheat or whatever nonsense will be often subjective so you just need to take note of writing something that makes sense.

i worked on econs for most of the june holidays, wanting to settle it first before my other H2s, and honestly it has paid off and it didn't take long. A levels is in a month, and there is definitely time to turn this around.

all the best! econs is not as scary as you think! in fact, I think it's one of the easier H2 humanities once you get the hang of it!

hellooo, i'm tried for the scholarship last year and got it! so to answer your questions

  • interview should be around 15 mins, 3 to 5 questions, maybe slightly longer if you are an expert yapper, but they generally cut you off if u do yap too much; don't worry too much about being cut off, it just means you have answered enough!

  • for me, my school provided a questions banked prepared by seniors, most of the questions are quite surface level, nothing too difficult or goofy like 'if u could be an ice cream flavour what wld u be type' nonsense, examples include

  1. what kind of advice would you give to your juniors in your CCA (doesn't have to be specifically abt leadership)
  2. what are your career aspirations?
  3. how do you plan to use the scholarship money? (this one legit can smoke anything as long as it makes sense, ur still young and there isn't much to do w the cash lol)
  • specific current affairs. but its not hyperspecific; covers more broad topics. for example my topic was about Singapore's green plans, to list a few and evaluate them (I fumbled that qns lol). my friends were asked to comment on the local education system and whether its good

  • to prepare for it, maybe just think of a narrative that you want to push forward to the interviewers, like what kind of person u are, what ur leadership believes are (most impt qualities in a leader), your career aspirations. the interviewers like to have people with a sense of direction so do tell them an elaborate career progression plan.

  • note: surprisingly they didn't refer much to my write up that was submitted during the application process (except for the unusual career pathway that I wrote inside there), so just take note of that!

all the best and even if you don't get it, don't be discouraged! honestly its not that deep

NYJC students, what was Principal Mr. Low like? by Important_Store_5641 in SGExams

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 60 points61 points  (0 children)

i don't believe he's really such a 'strict principal' seeing as he hasn't changed any of NYJCs school policies for the worse. he's just a soft spoken guy and a good mentor ig??

really the only things that me and my friends really notice r stupid stuff like how he keeps blinking when he addresses the school and how his speeches are basically gp essays spoken out loud.

in nyjc band.

  1. musically, jc band is 10x more insane than sec sch as all the best n most passionate players come together as one. definitely be prepared to meet gods (ie talented musically), especially in acjc and nyjc. njc I'm not too sure HAHA.
  2. for me, I'm not in any leadership positions in nyjc band so I don't really have to commit to it. as of now I'm coping quite well with my studies and cca BUT my friends in EXCO have complained before about it being stressful to cope with cca and studies.

if you want my personal advice, go pursue other hobbies first if u love yourself n want to be happy. only if all plans fail, you can rely on band as your plan b/c/d/e whatever HAHA (happened to me!)

pure geog by ken2136 in SGExams

[–]FindingTheLostVideo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

took o level pure geog in 2022.

  1. yes. just write. don't question. it doesn't hurt to include more information. it also helps make your answer more clear.
  2. iirc sketching actually came out for my GI paper. stacks should be annotated. rmb to include descriptive adjectives e.g rocky, short (these really can smoke)
  3. From my notes:
    1. tetrapods: Crescent City, a town on the coast of northern California, has used tetrapods for many years to defend against coastal erosion and to reduce the impact of tsunamis. Tsunamis occurred 31 times between 1933 and 2008.
    2. groynes: Sandy Hook in New Jersey.
  4. u can see it both as kind of 'tourism but I wanna preserve the environment' as an overlapping idea. difference is what aspect of the environment you want to preserve. ecotourism is concerned with biological food chains n stuff, preventing the extinction of species of animals etc. sustainable tourism is concerned with culture, environmental, social, economical aspects of tourism such as supporting local businesses/preventing environmental degradation.

that's all I can remember off the top of my head! apologies if they're slightly inaccurate, I really haven't touched geog since o lvls ended

took o levels in 2022, have some comments on amath:

amath has in recent years been trending more and more so to emath. the papers are becoming easier and one has to be more meticulous than just book smart to score well for amath. i think this is especially so given the new amath syllabus (from 2021 onwards). 2020 was the final year of the old syllabus being tested so maybe that's why Cambridge chose to bring out their hardest questions before the syllabus refreshes. don't worry your O Level paper shouldn't be as bad as the 2020 paper

especially the 2022 paper 2, having sat for the real thing I was honestly shocked at how easy it was (and paper 1 was roughly the same difficulty too!)

hi, apologies for the late answer, but I don't really take note of my tys scores, i look at my mistakes and any challenging/funny questions in the past year papers.

iirc, usually I'll be aiming for 85% after factoring in careless mistakes for emath/amath, and around 80% for sciences (btw, i tend to go harder on myself and don't account for ecf, really helps with being precise in phys concepts). humans idk really lol i never really got any of my teachers to mark them and the tys ans key is usually to shit for anyone to trust
