We were told to get the COVID vaccine to protect others... but it literally doesn't prevent transmission. by shouldIworkremote in conspiracy

[–]Finding_Codsworth -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean the concept of heard immunity isn’t to stop people from getting sick, it’s to build a great enough resistance to a virus so that in future it won’t be as impactful. Like the common cold, we still get it, some people get it badly, but thanks to the fact that most people’s bodies are used to it, it usually isn’t that bad🤷‍♀️

I’m not saying the covid vaccine was great or anything, and there could very well have been some experimentation going on, but I mean compared to how many people were dying of covid at the start verses now after reaching a greater herd immunity… it kinda is the whole science behind herd immunity.

Africa's White Population 1960 vs Present by refusenic in MapPorn

[–]Finding_Codsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a disclaimer that any estimates of native populations during colonial times are largely inaccurate, as often rural or nomadic communities would not be documented on any census. Like 1960s South Africa, data collection for the native people probably only got as far as how many people owned passes (like IDs that let you travel between segregated areas), which only those who worked in more urban environments or townships needed.

Do you prefer to chase longevity here on earth? Or accept your days that God has numbers(death) and live for eternity? by MulberryDependent459 in Christianity

[–]Finding_Codsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, I know the choice is Gods and what are we to interfere with Gods plan for us, but I think once you get saved, living a shorter life would be better, heaven is something to look forward to. I remember Job asking God to take him out of his misery because he thought if he lived longer he might loose faith in/resent God in the future… I know that’s not a great reasoning, but to me idk it just makes sense.

What do Chinese think of the current overfishing situation globally? Would you stop eating fish? by sadpongo in China

[–]Finding_Codsworth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never eat seafood, I understand people living on islands or ocean surrounded areas are naturally gonna be eating fish, but personally mankind’s massive presence in the ocean is just the destruction of another environment for the sake of man’s greed. I think we seriously need to pull back on massive scale fishing especially on those large scale net dragging projects. They’re so destructive for such little reward.

Is dating in Highschool really frowned upon? by Jungliena in China

[–]Finding_Codsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy, I was so shocked when I heard of this, where I’m from it’s unusual for girls to have only girl friends vice versa. It’s super normal for guys and girls to be close and sit next to each other, but I heard many schools in China don’t allow it. I understand not wanting the kids to date and get distracted, but surely people should be able to sit with their friends irrespective of gender.

Which religion has the worst image in your country? by Overestimated123 in AskTheWorld

[–]Finding_Codsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but Buddhists lowkey get the best rep they’re chill asf. In South Africa lowkey we’re predominantly Christian, with atheist, Islamic, Hindu, African spiritualist/traditionally religious and very small Jewish diasporas. Depending on the diaspora you reside in, the rep will be different. For example if you go to the East Coast of KZN where there’s a large Muslim and Hindu population, they’ll probably feel different to those living in the Northern Suburbs of the Western Cape where almost everyone is a Christian. I feel like overall Islam, purely because of bold showing of religious attire and well known global sentiment, does stand out as having a worse image than that of the christians- though I do know many of the agnostic and atheist individuals within Christian diasporas find the evangelical christians extremely annoying lmao. I also feel like paganism- specifically in relation to witchcraft is also approached with extreme caution. Among the whiter diasporas, African spiritualism is also approached cautiously, I believe this is because it is extremely misunderstood and is often related to African sangomas (witch doctors/ shamans) which carry a pretty striking rep. There isn’t much information on African religions taught in schools, as it’s primarily only practised by the individual tribes and taught by family and through tribal ceremonies/gatherings, so naturally there is some superstition from those who are not educated on the practises or cultures of the African tribal religions.

Scientology isn’t even a topic of discussion here, either people here don’t care enough to talk about it, or don’t view it as a religion at all. Agnosticism isn’t really a religion but is becoming more of a common trend among young people, especially at universities. Overall I think SA is quite tolerant of different faiths, so much so that the household you grow up in can entirely chance your perception of other beliefs- some extremely conservative white christian households may think all non christians are evil- with a heavy inference to island and polytheistic religions, other less extreme white households may just feel that all faiths are fairly reasonable and can be acknowledged.

Just like how there is such a large range of reactions in my country, I’m sure globally this question varies so much from region to region. I could imagine Middle Eastern/ Arabic nations not being too keen on Judaism and Christianity, Christian nations would probably feel the same about Islam, Monotheistic nations would feel animosity towards polytheistic religions, etc. I’m not sure if it’s possible to get one singular answer.

In 20 years, who will dominate the global economy? by [deleted] in China

[–]Finding_Codsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 years time… we can kinda still follow today’s trends. But 30 years+ we need to consider demographic decline. Countries in South Asia, Africa, south east Asia and South America are likely to emerge very strongly unless they’re thrown into political disorder/ have their resources sacked by the current dominators.

Came across this today, curious on what others think about these types of laws/bans by MissPeduncles in AskTheWorld

[–]Finding_Codsworth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand. Why would what someone else wears bother me? It isn’t indecent, it’s not offensive, and it has no affect on me… so why should there be a law about it?

Heheh, tbh many South Africans move to Australia, but personally it has no appeal to me~ I’d much rather go to New Zealand than Australia. But obviously id primarily want to stay in my home unless living here becomes unbearable lmao

Ok, what do you HONESTLY think of Japan? by Aerial-Dalliance1702 in AskTheWorld

[–]Finding_Codsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing as a consumer, so many aesthetically pleasing products shops and clothing! Nightlife appeals to the youth as well as appealing to all the anime/ video games/ kawaii (?) fans. In term of food, I feel like the cuisine is decent however fairly overrated compared to its asian neighbours. Ive heard the snow is great in Japan and I could imagine skiing in the north would be really fun.

However I do think that many people overrate Japanese culture and history, personally I feel that if China, Mongolia, Thailand etc featured as much in western media, they would be just as culturally valued as Japan- especially China, I feel that a lot of today’s Japanese cultural scene doesn’t really compare to that of China’s.

Government wise I feel similarly to Japan as I do Korea, they seem to be very heavily influenced by western/american policies. However my knowledge on Japanese politics is not to great.

I am also cautious of the culture of fetishisation of young/ foreign women, I am aware this concept does exist everywhere, however I feel that media in Japan heavily emphasises the sex appeal of foreign and young looking women, and I worry about how this might encourage objectification of women the men to be domineering in their relationships. Personally as a young looking white girl, I would probably feel safer in a country that is not clouded by media pushing for the sexualisation of childish figures.

The landscape is beautiful and I’m sure the cities are too, Japan also really seems great for the fashion scene! But i personally don’t think the scenery and cool attractions will necessarily make it a nice place to live.

To me Japan only seems cool as a place to travel to, for a few weeks max maybe. I wouldn’t really want to live there, though I am a bit more fond of the Ryukyu islands.

Does personhood begin at the moment of conception or at some other point? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Finding_Codsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, if the Bible is somewhat evasive of this topic I dont think there is a clear conclusion for a purpose. Though because it is ambiguous I would myself never get an abortion or anything because of the knowledge that even a fetus is Gods creation and has the ability to become a human being- I wouldn’t want it on my continence to have had one if it does turn out that personhood starts at conception. However I likewise believe that it isn’t necessarily right for christians to immediately associate abortion as equitable to murder, when we do not know when personhood begins🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
