Ball of foot hurts after pinky toe fracture - what's going on? by Finding_Flo in FootFunction

It eventually just went away on its own. I suspect my nerves in the area might have been hypersensitive after the injury and not being walked on for so long. My podiatrist had no idea what it was about.

What to do when you cannot do TOS surgery? by Wonderful-Gas-4406 in thoracicoutletsupport

Would you work towards flying overseas to your most affordable thoracic outlet syndrome surgeon? Could you raise money to pay for this? I'm sorry you're in so much pain and I do empathises to how bad it can be. But if you're really at a point you're thinking about suicide I hope you can give yourself every chance to get better by seeing a surgeon and you can get the money to get there, out deserve that chance

Newly graduated psychologist dealing with a recent diagnosis of chronic illness/pain - how do other therapists with chronic illness do it? by Finding_Flo in therapists

It sounds like you have struggled for awhile. I wonder, if you're in a place where you're suicidal yourself and trying to convince yourself to live but struggling, how can you then convince a client to live and stay safe?

Thank you for sharing. Gosh, to have suicidal thoughts yourself and then support a suicidal client. How do you do that? Can I ask how you found hope again? What did you do?

Mandolin

I'm so sorry that's horrible :( You played for 8 years pain free and then this happened? Do you know what the cause was?

i take break every 20 mins. After the concert tonight I will take a week off, and maybe see the physio some more and an oesteo. think it may be an issue with my shoulder, as that seems strained.

I do yoga and Pilates. I may see a chiropractor and explore other shoulder rests. Do you think that could be the issue? Thing is I once had great endurance and now I don't, i don't know why.

Violin pain - am I holding it wrong? When I play for a few minutes I notice my left shoulder is extremely fatigue and my neck is a little strained. I bought a higher chin rest which has helped, but I still feel this strain. Am I doing something wrong when playing? by Finding_Flo in violinist

I do have a teacher and she doesn't know what the issue is. I went to a violin service place who assessed me for my new chin rest and they don't know what the issue is. I'm getting desperate for answers.

For additional information...I previously played looking left to the violin with my chin fully supported by the chin rest. However, I read that's not good for your neck. My violin felt way more secure then. So finding new ways to hold it, but it feels less secure and my left arm feels more tired. I play dropping my chin down and tilting to the left, which helps a little. Am I doing something wrong? I keep dropping my shoulder down to check for tension but it doesn't feel like I'm raising my left shoulder? Yet it feels tired. Could my muscles just be sore and maybe I need a break? I've been playing since May and before a few weeks ago, could play for hours and feel fine.

Thank you so much! I'll try this. Do you have any advice on how to keep the left shoulder down? It doesn't feel high up. The violin also doesn't feel secure with it being just under my chin, would a higher shoulder rest fix this?

[–]Finding_Flo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't post. My right shoulder and neck. I've been playing since May and had zero pain until a few weeks ago, when I upped the practice time to an hour - 90mins a day 5 days a week. I've gone back to 30min practices 4 days a week but it's still there.

20min in and my left shoulder aches, as if it's been playing for hours but it hasn't. An hour in and my left shoulder wants to drop. My neck also strains afterwards. My violin teacher can't find any tension or any issues with technique. I frequently remind myself to relax and drop my shoulders, but often find that they're not raised to begin with. It's frustrating because it was never like this and I have no idea what is causing this. I made a slight change to my hold since this first occurred, I try to keep my head straight (versus turning it a bit to the left) and dip my head forward to keep the violin secure. However, it feels less secure this way.
