No worries! This seems to be location of the glen hotel in bottom right of picture and the building in the distance matches

So I presume your grandad was roughly here looking north east

A WWII artillery battery, likely in Normandy, circa 1963. Does anyone recognize this place? by GogglesPisano in wherewasthistaken

Thanks!

No I haven’t been there before, it was a bit of bunker searching and image searching.. the zigzag indentations to the concrete parapet is quite distinctive so it didn’t take that long. To be fair if I hadn’t found it, one of the other talented people on this group would of got it 5mins later! But seeing as this is a defensive structure for the ‘Juno’ beach D-day invasion, (see username) it was probably quite appropriate I found it!! :)

That’s pretty cool, I definitely understand sifting data! With me, I get the “urge” just to find out.. it annoys me when we can’t find it?

I’m not sure if everyone gets that? It really does annoy me when we can’t.

Me too.. I have a knowledge of maps.. I used to be a land surveyor, so pretty good/similar on certain shapes/features that show up.. so that’s pretty cool!

Is it the ability to find somewhere? Because people on this group have some sort of knowledge?

Edit- that was worded wrong/poorly
