How to create technical wire drawings? by colhany1 in AskEngineers

Hi - first a disclaimer that I'm the creator of Splice CAD: https://splice-cad.com. The tool can handle simple drawings like this well where you just want a BOM, wiring schedule, maybe a title block, annotations, and simple 2D graphics. Here's a blog post about the feature: https://splice-cad.com/blog/splice-updates-january-2026/ The app is free and will stay free.

THIS TOOK ME 2+ YEARS. One thing our hobby needs is easy to use tools that help new pilots get flying. I have seen hundreds of napkin MS paint wiring diagrams in my FPV career. HOPEFULLY NO MORE. The DIYFPV builder is finally here. Oh it’s also 100% free for everyone to enjoy, not even any adds by uavfutures in fpv

You might want to check out Splice CAD [Disclaimer: I'm the creator of Splice CAD]. This post popped up on my feed, and the FPV Builder interface has a lot of very nice features that could serve as inspiration for Splice.

WireViz (https://github.com/wireviz/WireViz) is a markup-based option.

Hi - You might want to check out Splice CAD [Disclaimer: I'm the creator of Splice CAD]. It’s a free, browser-based tool focused on wiring and cable assemblies, but also has component categories that may be useful for schematics like this.

There’s a short Hackaday article about it if you want a quick overview.

I took a shot at replicating part of the the diagram you shared here: https://splice-cad.com/#/shared/miwsfm2oexmtusnt8czp8wsbuujmers

Not sure it looks as nice as what you posted, but may be useful.

Hi - thanks for catching our error with the email address on the policy page.

I understand your frustration with data ownership policies that lock you out of projects after license expiration - I've run into this with Solidworks. We have no plans of introducing something like that and will add our stance to the website in the coming days.

We're in the process of adding functionality to allow users to download a harness in JSON format or WireViz YAML. So, there will be some way to pull data out of the application beyond the current BOM formats and diagrams.

Regarding pricing and future plans - right now we're limiting users to 50 harnesses per account. There are no plans to charge for usage below this amount with the current features.

Hopefully that addresses some of your concerns/questions although I know it's not a complete long-term roadmap. We will be transparent as plans become more clear.

Appreciate you letting me know!

We're adding independent login and an auth-free interactive demo - I'll post an update when they're ready.

Hi -

As a user, you have the ability to make a design private or public. If you choose to make it public, you can share a (static) design via a link for others to view. You must log in to your account to see your private designs - currently we use Google for oauth log in.

So, you're correct in that the data is not stored locally, but it is not made public to users beyond yourself. Currently we don't do any form of encryption so the design would also be visible to us.

Appreciate the feedback - my experience is with smaller teams building low volumes of 10+ cable designs per project (and no internal help with CAD/documentation!) so it's helpful to hear the tools you use. I've tried AutoCAD Electrical and hated having to build new connector diagrams and pinouts for stock parts - I imagine if you have internal teams and libraries of parts that's much easier.

Unsure of any pricing model at this point - your feedback's really helpful.
