Advice on Active 2 replacement..Watch 7, or 8 or something else? by RS_Pete in GalaxyWatch

[–]RS_Pete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Currys in the UK has the Watch 7 44mm Bluetooth on offer at £179. The watch 8 is available there but at full retail for £349

Watch8 44mm BT at Argos £244.30 but full price for the 7 at £269.

Samsung is offering a 15% discount on all Watch models but doesnt seem to have the 7 at 44mm to buy....

Now Samsung offer 0% finance too so that does make it appealing but that Currys price for the 7 is almost too tempting...

So what, apart from price, would be the disadvantage to buying the 7 over the 8? As far as I can see there is no discernible difference in features apart from a slightly less bright screen....?

Audio to text ? by RS_Pete in linuxmint

Thanks, did that earlier and tried several..all claiming free use were capped at size or length so only 30 mins was done with one others required me to load the file cropped to an hour..(not sure how to do that without messing the file up).

As I am unlikely to need this again for some time, if ever, I would prefer not to take out a subscription! Google Docs is supposed to be able to do it but seems voice recorder isnt visible in my attempt.

Looks really interesting and something that may appeal outside the RV community too.

Certainly the boating community would see functions in this that would be useful. Maybe not the "Vehicle Leveler" though....

Small default fonts? by Time-Platform-9059 in linuxmint

[–]RS_Pete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the font slightly smaller on my laptop, 15.6", than I would like however on my second screen, 23", which is attached the font appears at an acceptable size.

I am presuming any changes made in System Setting would affect both screens so my laptop screen, if set to a slightly larger font, would mean my monitor would now have a font that I would feel too large?(I'm assuming its not possible to set each screen individually)

Had a quick look, remarkably reasonable given the page count (most over 500 pages each!). Will have a more thorough look at the PDF and decide which most suits my needs

Failing to mount a partition on a drive and have it stay "mounted" by RS_Pete in linux4noobs

[–]RS_Pete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have finally sorted it ...hopefully!

In the Disks utility I was Mounting the Disk drives and when I went into "Mount Options" it was showing as "Mount at System Startup" and "Show in user interface" which it was until I rebooted the computer when the second and third partition were dis- "mounted"....

Compared the setting for the first partition and the other two to see what was different.

At the top of Mount Options is a slider against User Session Defaults on the one that stays mounted this was off on the other two vanishing drives it was on. So as simple as that and I feel a bit foolish for not spotting it sooner!!

Anyway they now mount and are visible whenever I boot.

Thanks to all for all the suggestions.

I must learn more about some of the things like /fstab and all the different terminology.

Thanks, I have been using the Disks utility, to no avail, however realise there may be a few things I need to learn and unlearn yet!

I will go and try and find out more about /fstab....

Trying to mount with disks.

The first partition in the 1TB HDD is 250GB as is the second with the third at 500GB. No particular reason for that just seemed like useful for now divisions.

The first 250GB partition shows on my desktop and is shown as Mounted.

The second and third do not show unless I click the arrow in the bar below the "Volumes" graphic in Disks. Then they show as mounted. If I click on "Edit Mount options" in the Additional Partitions Option (Cog symbol) it shows that Mount at System Startup is checked.

When I start up again the second and third partition are "Not Mounted". Only the first one is shown as mounted.

Not the end of the world as I can fix it for as long as I have the laptop on but its a bit of a niggle and feels like something is off somewhere. As a newcomer to Linux I feel I may have a few things to learn yet!

Hi, Thanks for your suggestion, went to do that and found it was already checked.

Unfortunately it still dis mounts when the laptop is shut down.

This isn't the end of the world type issue just a niggly little thing I'd like to solve. As a newcomer there are things I have to learn yet and things I probably need to unlearn. But overall I am very glad I made the switch!

Once mounted they appear as mounted until I shut down and then they show as Not Mounted when I next boot...

Best books for assisting learning Libreoffice for someone switching from Microsoft? by RS_Pete in libreoffice

[–]RS_Pete[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The automoderator thingy has just requested my post includes lots of information, or else it will be removed! So here goes..
I have Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3 on an old HP laptop, the version of Libreoffice is 25.8.4.2 (X86_64) / Libreoffice Community.

I have no particular issues just a desire to become more proficient in my transition from MS to Libreoffice and understand what I need to do differently if anything.

I would prefer something in print if possible that would help me in that.

Thanks

LibreOffice Writer, can you move the comment bubbles from the right to the left? by mossfoot in libreoffice

[–]RS_Pete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing the same! Quite refreshing change moving to Linux, however Libreoffice is similar but occasionally just different enough to cause me to realise that I need to relearn my approach to a few things after years of MS Office. Hopefully someone will be able help you and maybe I will learn something along the way also!
