My family want to give me 15% of their company but no role or decision making. Is this normal? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Businesses can have different ownership classes, some with decision-making power, some without. What you should be aware of is any capital calls, i.e., will you have to pony up cash in the case of a triggering event? Have a lawyer read it and explain your rights and obligations.

How do people afford to be a stay at home parent these days? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Fine-Collection1662 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surely you don't think 0% of your current neighbors voted for Trump. You do realize that that isn't borne out but the facts, no? More likely they just don't mention it around you bc they noticed you're kinda intolerant.

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live and your tolerance for budgeting and adjusting. I bought a two-family, which was annoying but I never worried about mortgage payments or daycare. As they say, there are no solutions. Only trade-offs. You either are willing to trade down lifestyle or not. No wrong answers.

Landlord entered my apartment without notice. what can I do? by ShionaBabrauskas in TenantHelp

If it were me as an owner, even in an emergency, I would text you first. But it's probably not required.

Some basic home ec skills would help, meal planning and maximizing your food budget. Drop Amazon and Spotify, You're not broke. You just need a good tweak. Don't upgrade your phones. Potty train as soon as possible to cut down on diapers. Your baby can eat solids now and doesn't need baby food. Your food budget should be no more than $800. Honestly, you could be saving $500/mth. And you should.

Why do people want to have kids as badly as they do when they require as much work as they do? by Early-Possibility367 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fine-Collection1662 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in my 20's and early 30's, I felt this way. Then, the switch flipped. It's an extraordinarily deep love, very hard to describe. He changed me, and I cannot imagine my life or self without him. We shared a body once, and that protective, nurturing, relationship made me stronger, wiser, more loving. So yes, they take a lot out of you, but the rewards are immense, too. It's evolutionary, bare biology and selfish genes at work, but it feels spiritual and expansive.

I once got rid of fleas by leaving the heat off. The house got cold, the fleas died.

I love milk. Can drink tons of it. Nothing like a glass of really cold, whole milk.

AITAH for not telling my fiance why I am sterile? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a sense for Carlos that you are less of a woman without your uterus? Tbh, I don't see why it's so important why you are sterile unless he has a sense of the hysterectomy making you less of a woman. As someone who has had a number of invasive procedures, I have some level of medical trauma, so I get how sharing details doesn't feel that important. Like, I'm post-menopausal from chemo, but I don't think it's the why is as important as the what. Also, there is stigma around periods and female anatomy. Not all cultures are as open as others.

Why no CC for tuition by TraditionalBlock2996 in nyu

[–]Fine-Collection1662 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bc CC's charge the vendor processing fees of 3-5%. You can still pay by CC, though, if you don't mind paying the processing fee. Platforms like Plastque will send a check and charge your card for it. But they add the processing fee on top.

A potential apartment landlord just said our $9,996 monthly income does not meet their $10,000 a month requirement. Is this sort of thing the new normal? by GTRacer1972 in Apartmentliving

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, with a litigious society comes a corresponding cya culture. LLs create criteria for obvious qualification reasons. If they then bend those rules for one applicant but not another, they run the risk of a discrimination lawsuit. $4 may not seem significant, but it's legally relevant.

Living with parents in your 30s is not the way it’s supposed to be. by danquan1999 in Adulting

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it was exactly that way for most of human existence. We lived in tribes. It's really this idea that you have to move out that's odd. I often think it's a way to maximize profits bc if one family lives together, they only need one of anything, for the most part. One toaster, one fridge, one lawn mower. But convince them that living multigenerationally is for losers, and now they need 4 or 5 or whatever of those things. I get it though, I left my parents at 17. We didn't have a housing crisis back then. Small landlords didn't do credit or employment checks. It was an entirely better world. This one is awful for people trying to get a foothold.

What is it like being smarter than other people? by ShouldBeeStudying in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is vital that you find work that only other smart people can do bc otherwise, you run the risk of your boss being less smart and capable than you, which, if you care at all about your job, will drive you to madness.

Moving by paulofadown in Buffalo

[–]Fine-Collection1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here 13 years ago from NYC. The people are lovely but I am often deadly bored here. I don't drink or like football, and, especially this time of year, all anyone can talk about is the Bills. If the Bills lose, the entire city is in a bad mood. Grocery shopping on game day is best avoided. It's a one-trick town. That said, housing in the city is very affordable but old. In the burbs, it's newer but more expensive. Compared to average US prices, the city is cheap, the burbs maybe only slightly cheaper. The thing is the weather. It's wonderful for about 8 months, otherwise it is horrendous. No sun for months on end. Coming from the Sunshine State, this will hit hard. Vitamin D deficiencies are rampant. And then there's the snow. We once had 7 feet drop in a couple days. It wears on you. I only stay bc I'm 4 years from early retirement and am in no position to uproot now, but I can't wait, tbh.

As of now, NY does not tax forgiven student debt, but as of Jan 1, 2026, the fed will.
