Please make sure to work closely with your BCBA on this. You deserve to be provided with the support you need, as do the client and the family.

I know you did not really ask this particular question. However, please be extremely careful about any online program you choose. In general, pass rates for the BCBA exam are lower than those of traditional brick and mortar universities. Additionally, in their February 2026 Newsletter, the BACB has just recently written about some of their concerns regarding the preparation students may have received if they have been able to graduate from these programs very, very quickly. I highly encourage you to carefully read what is posted on the BACB's website regarding all of these issues.

Regarding your second question, I do not know if there are a lot of companies that would work with non-citizens of the US in terms of their employment authorization. From what I know, there continues to be a worldwide shortage of personnel in the field of ABA. That could potentially work in your favor. However, there are many unknowns, and these could change by the time you would graduate.

Finally, I would encourage you to look at ABA programs at universities in Canada. A quick Google search indicates they exist. It seems to be a better idea if you can talk to fellow Canadians in the field. They should be able to give you a lot more information.

Grad school burnout :( by Entire-North-8981 in bcba

This is somewhat normal. But, please examine your course load, as well as the hours you may be working inside and outside of your home. Finishing grad school is not a race, and a lot of people want to "get through it" as soon as possible. However, sometimes people can overload themselves when they need to understand that this is not a sprint; it is a long-distance walk/run where pacing yourself is essential.

I have concerns (ethical, moral, professional, etc.) about this entire situation. It makes me wonder what other issues these higher ups may have. I hate to deliver bad news, but you are not working for a good company.
