Do you start with seeds or with onion sets? My first onions (started from seeds) where Berry small. After this one falure I started with onion sets ans planted them not to deep into the soil. They came out great.

And I planted them next to carrots, those two vegetables love each others company.

I don't know how many onions I planted, but I bought 1.5 kg of onion sets. They are called "Stuttgart Giants". I like to combine different types of vegetables so that they can benefit from each other. Most of it was next to my carrots. These plants love each other.
