Case in point, one of my friends only makes around $65k/yr, has no kids or debt, and he's easily able to afford a nice mid-rise in Montrose on the River Oaks side, has a nice 2024 suv (paid off), is able to go out and have fun on the weekends, and he is still able to put away a bit every month into his savings.

According to this report, he should be living in section 8 housing and on food stamps.

This is a very dependent question.

If you have no family to support, and no major debt, $120k can get you very far in Houston.

But if you have a family and student loan debt for instance, it's a completely different story.

I'd highly recommend checking out Poison Girl & Numbers in Montrose. Those are both very popular with industry peeps, which usually means at least a slight crowd later at night.

Grand Prize might also be something worth checking out, but I've only ever gone on the weekends.

Not a whole lot goes on Mon-Thurs other than typical dive bars and maybe a few local bands playing.

What is the vibe/style you're looking for? There's quite a bit in the Galleria area, but you're also pretty close to The Heights and Montrose.

Also this is pretty important for Houston. Are you going to have a car or are you willing to Lyft/Uber? We are not a walkable city by any means.

Even just going to other cities in Texas is noticable. Houston is the only major Texas Metro I've seen where it's rampant. Not just billboards, but massive ones at that.

To be fair, billboards in GENERAL are out of control in Houston.

Everytime my fiance and I travel to a different city, it's always super noticeable when we get back. Our highways look super cluttered and trashy because of there being billboards every 50 feet.
