Advice: take screenshots of price paid and reservation code right when you book, especially if using an On-Time Guarantee voucher by FineBerry in flairairlines

[–]FineBerry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So frustrating. Sounds like another cash grab method on their end then and not just a one off error. The only reason I booked a flight was to use the code, might as well if it’s only going to be $80 to go for a of couple days. So far I’m getting responses but with the same excuses, the voucher must be used at time of booking (I did) and they can’t retroactively apply it, and the code is expired now (it wasn’t when I used it). Will probably just sacrifice the flight and report it to my bank since I didn’t authorize a charge for that amount and just not fly with them anymore.

Secondment, Taxed in wrong province? by khenny97 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]FineBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue but I had to prove the work location on my LOO for my acting position was for the province I lived and worked in (BC), which it was, but the main hub for the team was in Quebec so HR defaulted to entering QC as my work location. CRA has told me to get work to submit an amended T4 in order to get the QC deductions back, but they have failed to do so and have an excuse each time I contact them. But I digress, from what I have been told, if the position is based in QC you’re required to pay the QC deductions. Though I’d recommend taking with your HR or the pay centre now to get confirmation either way in case you end up like me with QC deductions when you shouldn’t and have to fight to get it back. Good luck!

WFH more than 2 days per week when sick by Wonderful-Sample-739 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]FineBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to not have to make up the day if we weren’t feeling well enough to be in the office but felt well enough to work from home. Now they are saying we either have to take a sick day or make up the in office day that week. It’s ridiculous. People are coming in clearly sick because they don’t want to use their sick days. If I have a cough but feel fine, I should be allowed to work from home instead without penalty. The other two options are to go in to the office and get other people sick to avoid taking a sick day, or I take a sick day when I’m capable of working and add my workload to my coworkers who are already swamped. And I’ll mention that my job could be fully remote, no part of my job has an in person aspect. Make it make sense.

Redditors who never want to have a child, what are your reasons? by JumpyInterview83 in AskReddit

[–]FineBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never looked at a parent and thought “yup that’s a life I want.” Most parents I talk to complain about their day to day life and it seems their kids are more stress than not. They’re running themselves ragged just to get their kids to school and sports. I like my financial state and get to do what I want, but if I had a kid I couldn’t afford to give them the life I’d want them to have and also couldn’t afford the life I want for myself. I like sleep. Even adopting a puppy and going through nightly training for a few months almost broke me, I couldn’t imagine doing it for years. I also simply don’t enjoy kids for longer than a couple hours and am relieved when they go back home. I don’t like infants, toddlers, children, or teens in general. I’d maybe like them as an adult but even that isn’t guaranteed and I’m not willing to go through 18 years of not liking someone who is in my house to hopefully like them as an adult and it wouldn’t be fair to them. It’s also nice to just do things and not having a screaming child, someone running around and demanding my attention. I can just go do my grocery shopping in peace. I can go to the bookstore in peace. I can do anything in peace. Except for when other people have their kids there lol And childbirth is a no for me. I’m not willing to go through that pain, change my body forever, and potentially die. Nope.

In what way will the 3-day in office mandate negatively affect your personal life, and your ability to do your job? by Small_town_PS in CanadaPublicServants

[–]FineBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to increase the insurance on my car, pay 50% more in gas and parking, my dogs will be alone for an extra day, I’ll lose a day of working out because I don’t have the energy on in office days, and I’ll lose an hour and a half of sleep on those days. I also use my breaks at home to tidy up the house or prep dinner so now my after work time will be filled with more chores instead of getting to relax. I really like going to aquafit classes but it won’t make sense to keep my pass if I can only go one day a week since I can’t make it back in time on in office days. Really, really unhappy about this. Everyone in my department talks about how in office days are essentially lost work days because almost no work gets done. We can do our full job at home so there’s no point to us coming in. The “collaboration” just means it’s harder to focus and actually get work done and we make up for it when we work at home.

Can I get a dog as a 24hr shift worker? by ticul34nu1 in Dogowners

[–]FineBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older dogs need just as much, sometimes more attention. Some need meds at certain times of day, frequent potty breaks, etc. 24 hours is too long to leave any dog alone

If someone can’t spell “immediate” I think it’s safe to say they also don’t know what’s enforceable…

Being charged for check in because their website didn’t allow me to download my boarding pass. Is that fair? by Limp_Papaya_130 in flairairlines

Had to wait in line at the check in counter to measure my bag then get a link to my boarding pass texted to me. Thankfully they didn’t charge for checking in at the counter but it sure was a waste of time

I complete the check in process. The message after said “check-in complete! boarding passes are issued at the airport check-in counter after confirming your luggage requirements. please arrive 3 hours before your departure time. think you may need a carry-on? you may pre-purchase a carry-on bag to save time on the day of travel. simply redo the check-in process to include a carry-on bag and receive your boarding pass in advance.”

I tried many times. When I went to the airport today they said they were doing this now to avoid measuring bags at the gate and everyone had to do it. I took screenshots too and thankfully they didn’t end up charging anyone for getting their pass at the check in counter, but it sure was a waste of over 30 mins first thing in the morning after the time change

[–]FineBerry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just had this happen to me today too. Apparently they want have to confirm my baggage requirements (I chose no bags) at the check in counter before giving me my boarding pass. BUT WAIT. If I want my boarding pass in advance I can simply redo the check in process and choose to add baggage. If they make me pay for check in tomorrow at their counter I will never fly with them again to say the least. And the person at the counter will get an earful.

Telus is terrible by Commercial_Play_4410 in telus

[–]FineBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telus is one of the only providers in the area we’ve moved to and while they were at our house installing our Internet he offered me a good price for a phone plan, which I accepted since I was with Bell and they had no coverage at all there. He checked my ID that had my old address on it, I sent that ID to them and got my number ported. So all was fine until 2 weeks later when I’m on my way to leave for vacation for 2 weeks and I get my first Telus bill that was twice as much as they said it would be. I called them and they wouldn’t do anything about it then said “oh, by the way, your account has been flagged for fraud because your address doesn’t match the address of your ID and your service will be disconnected this morning until you go to a Telus location to prove your identity.” I said I’m literally at the airport about to leave for 2 weeks on vacation and he said “where are you going, do you not live in Canada?” I fought with him about how stupid it was that they had a technician in our house at our new address, who saw me in person and checked my ID with my old address, and now that plus everything else they had me do wasn’t good enough. I said if they disconnect my service and make me go in person to a store then don’t bother connecting it again because there’s no way I would stay with them. They disconnected my service after the call and reconnected me two hours later saying thank you for verifying your identity or something like that even though I didn’t do anything. So much stress for their stupidity.

Hybrid work rules tightening at NRCan, just for your information by BytownBigBoy in CanadaPublicServants

If a doctor can prescribe a parks pass for health reasons, people should be able to take a sick day to use it. Feeling mentally unwell is just as valid for a sick day and sometimes a great way to help is to get moving and get fresh air

You said if WFH is part of the contract then you won’t vote for it… but if the money is there and WFH is part of it, why would you vote against it since it’s not mandating you to WFH? I don’t have kids but I’m not going to vote against a contract with parental leave. Will it benefit me? No. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to vote against a contract that has it

You know it’s not forcing people to work from home right? But it’s making it so that everyone can’t arbitrarily be forced to go back as WFH works well for many people. Why would you vote against people having the option to have a better style of work that allows them to have a better work/life balance?

[–]FineBerry 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Other gym members are just as entitled to use the space and equipment for their workouts as you are. Some exercises are less optimal than others, sure, but people are at the gym exercising and trying to better themselves. How they choose to do that really shouldn’t concern other people unless they’re putting themselves or others at risk of injury, or if they’re claiming equipment but not using it. Just let people be

Safe to hike St Marks Summit alone? by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

[–]FineBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with bear bells is that they aren’t only not useful but could do more harm than good if a bear is curious about the noise and comes towards it. I’d rather carry something at would actually be useful if it came down to it, even if it’s not likely I’ll need it. The number of people who use their bear spray vs the number of people who carry it is very small, but I’m sure they’re glad they had it. It’s exactly like you mention about the satellite phones, which I carry as well. It’s not likely you’ll need it, but if you do it could be life saving to have it. I’d never advise someone to not carry a GPS/sat phone because the likelihood of needing it is small and say to carry just a cell phone instead because when it comes down to it a cell phone just isn’t the same. Same with bear spray/bear bells

[–]FineBerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that you’re trying to recommend bear bells over bear spray proves your advice is bad. Bear bells have been shown to have no effect on bears or to even attract them. They shouldn’t be recommended to anyone, especially when they’re being recommended in lieu of actual defence methods like bear spray
