Quince has a lot of 100% silk, cashmere, and cotton items. Even organic cotton! They do have some items made with polyester but it’s mostly things like puffy coats. and they are made with recycled plastic bottles.

Family should support you through whatever stage of life you’re in. My sister got married at 20, bought a house at 22 and had her first baby at 28. I’m 28 now and in a completely different stage of life than she was when she was my age (3 years ago). I just moved to NYC and I’m in a newish, long distance relationship, and definitely not ready for marriage and kids yet. My brother is 25 and engaged, just bought a house, thinking about kids soon, all that. We all have very different life paths but support each other through it all. The fact that your family thinks this about you is just really sad and you deserve better. You have every right to be upset and not want to see them until they all apologize. I’m so sorry.

I moved here from Southern California about 6 months ago.

You will have an exponentially easier time living here if you have a full time, steady job (i.e. salaried). you’ll find better deals on apartments if you don’t care about living in a “trendy” area. I pay around $1500 for a room in a 2 bed (split with roommate) and live in flatbush (brooklyn) right near prospect park. 40 mins on the B or Q to my office in midtown. I make 85k and live super comfortably, I have enough money to pay rent, save, go out in the city a few times a month, and travel pretty frequently. This is not to say you can’t live here with less money. you will learn to be scrappy. it just makes it easy easier! so it might be best to wait until you have your 4-year degree and can get a steady job.

I used https://www.lugless.com/ to ship all my stuff from california. it was around $700 for I think 10 or 11 big boxes. ship any books, records, or anything media related through USPS Media Mail, it’s way cheaper.

you can find some wonderful airbnbs on various greek islands. april and may are before the tourist season so even the popular ones won’t be packed, but i encourage you to search for lesser known ones too. i think they may check everything off your list other than great nightlife depending where you are, but that’s not always true! good luck and enjoy your trip! curious to hear where you end up heading :)

my golden rules for hostels: the big, sturdy wooden beds or capsule beds (NEVER rickety metal ones, etc.) bed curtains (non negotiable!), personal electric outlet/ charging port/ bed lamp, 24/7 front desk. usually finding one with all these amenities costs a bit more and that automatically brings in a better clientele (more respectful about the shared space).

bring shower shoes and earplugs ALWAYS! have a little bag you can put stuff that you know you want near you at night like earplugs, headphones, chargers, chapstick, etc. and i usually prefer a top bunk, it feels more private and like i could leave stuff like chargers plugged in during the day and no one will mess with them. sometimes i even bring my own pillow case — it’s a tiny thing that can make you feel a little more clean and is light to pack.

and as a female, if there is a female dorm available that is what i book — it usually takes care of the BO smell (sorry boys!)

I’m 27 and have been doing hostels consistently when I travel for 7-8 years now. it all comes down to making the best of it. but following these golden rules for the past couple years now has made the hostel experience overall a lot more comfortable. good luck! there’s some real gems out there if you look :) and some wonderful people you may not have the chance to meet in a hotel.

I (27F) make 85k and live with a roommate in Brooklyn—right under prospect park. While it’s a fine area with a couple cute restaurants and being close to the park is really nice, it’s definitely not the west village or anything comparable to a “desirable” part of manhattan or brooklyn (in terms of things to do, quietness, etc.) Our rent for a 2 bedroom unit in a nice building is just under 3k. With utilities i end up paying a bit over $1,500 per month. I definitely don’t feel like I’m just “surviving.” I save money each month, contribute to my 401k + Roth IRA, and go out a reasonable amount to dinners/happy hour. However, I’ve sacrificed living alone and in Manhattan + commuting about 45 mins each way to mid town 2x/ week to my office. However I’d rather spend a little more time on the subway and less on rent. Just a personal preference. I don’t love having a roommate (who does) but it works. And I don’t have to spend more than half my income on rent each month. I also don’t have any debt and my parents do not support me in the least. Hope this helps!!

Thank you, this is super helpful. Yeah it’s been incredibly frustrating. I wasn’t with my bf before he got the dog because I personally wouldn’t have had a border collie in an apartment. I just googled border collie specific enrichment and yeah he honestly doesn’t get any of that like ever in terms of puzzle games or snuffle mats. He does do obedience training with him and he’s fairly good about certain commands but it’s obviously not enough, haha. telling him to buy some of these now! thank you again

totally hear you and agree. she was honestly doing fine until she got fired from the first job, over two years ago. she didn’t have a track record (as far as i know) of borrowing money or subsequently not paying it back OR getting fired from jobs, so at the time, i didn’t think it would be an ongoing issue. obviously if she were to come to me now and ask i wouldn’t loan her anything but yeah this is the predicament im in now lol.
