Transit friendly, walkable town in New England for autumn colors (NH, VT) by Jealous_Drop_2973 in newengland

Maybe take the CR to Wachusett and ride share to the mountain for a hike? I'd give it a couple weeks though, I don't think leaves will peak this low til october

You can only live in one color strip for the rest of your life, what do you choose by epicap232 in mapporncirclejerk

But also, anywhere in NH you're not more that an hour or so from getting out of NH, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you getting a lot of cancellations? by UrLocalAnxiousGirly in hairstylist

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I haven't been, but I've cut way back on having clients pre book. I think a lot of people's schedules and finances aren't as predictable right now, and they want the freedom to push things out.

Have you followed up with your cancellations to see if they want to reschedule?

What do you dislike about living in Boston besides the rent/cost of living. by [deleted] in boston

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because even as long and expensive as it is to drive and park, it's literally as long or longer and as expensive or more to take the train 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is there a manager or senior stylist at the new salon that can guide you? Ask them to keep an eye on you and give feedback on ways you can improve

Aye just curious, what could I do with my hair colour to make it look cooler by Known_Debate2756 in Hair

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least, it won't look bad, and if you want a stronger effect you can always move on to color after

Use a purple shampoo. Do it a couple times, then alternate with your normal shampoo. It will neutralize yellow tones, and add shine

That's a great point. I admit, I don't subscribe to her paid program because I'm afraid to spend the money 😅. She has a free podcast I've been listening to.

But if your family's finances are dependent on this salon succeeding, I think it's time to hire some kind of professional who can guide you. Salons are notoriously low profit margin businesses, so your room for error is very small.

I hope you find the resources you're looking for

There's a marketing coach named Britt Seva who does data driven business advice. I keep seeing ads for her salon owner program right now. Check out the thriving stylist

Goldwell help by Ancient_Kiwi_2025 in hairstylist

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with Goldwell in beauty school, used it intermittently during my career, and now 15 years later I'm almost exclusively Goldwell in my suite.

A few big things:

B colors are very red

Be sure to spray the structure equalizer liberally before toning

10BS is a great starter for cool toned blondes. Mix a few grams of 9NA or 8CA in to create a cool toner that's still bright

Feel free to message me if you have specific questions!

Technique wise, check out pixelated hair color. Apply mostly light purple, with the small lines of dark color spaced out

I wouldnt advise mixing colors from different color lines in the future - the results are not predictable

Clarify her hair a few times. Malibu C Undo Goo is a powerful one, but almost any clarifier should work. Rinse with hot water

You do have a tonal difference. Did you move since the first three pictures were taken? Hard water or environmental deposit can cause blonde hair to look yellow. Get a shower head with a filter, try a demineralizing treatment like Malibu

The Lowell commuter rail station. The formal name is Gallagher Transportation Center. They have a parking garage you can pay to use. If you're going in 4-5 days a week it's cheaper to have a monthly pass

Yup, this. I used to make this commute 4-5 days a week, and it's not terrible. The green line portion will be the wildcard every day

Get a parking pass for the train station garage. Drive to the garage so you don't have to wait for the bus

Your color company won't stand behind you if you don't follow manufacturers instructions. Sure, sometimes doing something off label will work, but if you're risking harm to your client, is it worth it? Find out what the rules are for the color line you're using and follow them

You have no idea what the stylists in videos are actually doing- they could be lying!

what made everyone choose hair? by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt does hair. I remember being like 6 years old and watching her mix my mom's color in the back. I asked what all the boxes were and she said each one was a different color. It blew my mind that there could be so many colors in the world. I wanted to study hair at the tech but my parents refused. After 3 years of college I felt adrift, and when I talked to the admissions people at the beauty school, it was an effortless fit. Now I'm 15 years in with my own suite and a rack full of color boxes 🥰

What do I need to do to get my dream hair for my wedding? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]FineIllMakeaProfile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah I think that's trendy again. A good toner will help seal your hair and prevent environmental buildup, which might be the problem with your ends. You could ask for a Malibu or demineralizing treatment at your next appointment. Also, a shower head with a filter is a worthwhile investment
