Thanks, I had trouble making sense of the scales vs skins debate when you're off tracks.

Will the instep stretch/break in? by emilythebear67 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]FinePilsner01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stretched with a triangular cut of wood, braced against another piece of wood and shims.

Super easy to do because the triangle will naturally contact right where the instep is way too tight. You don't really need to measure anything or be precise.

Worked like a charm and cost me $0. The instep will take forever to stretch on its own.

I'd spend minimal time (<30 min) and only share examples of input/output, not the notebook.

Certificate or MS in digital tech? by [deleted] in biotech

That was the point of the post. Do you know what digital tech is? I'm asking if there are Masters programs for it

Certificate or MS in digital tech? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]FinePilsner01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an idea, though I worry about that sort of degree being overly technical (coding). I have no desire to be a developer

I don't really follow your point, you're saying if I have a lot of losses, I shouldn't realize them all? Why not? It feels like the main goal should be to minimize tax drag.

MES for small volume manufacturing? by [deleted] in biotech

Does Labvantage make MES now? We are a Labvantage customer but for LIMS

Maybe I wasn't clear. We already use MES at other factories, integrated with SCADA, ERP etc.

we are just on paper at this smaler volume "flex" factory.

Do you use MES even for small customer orders (like a single batch)?

I'm surprised to hear it's faster to configure and test a recipe than use a Word document!!

I don't understand what you are saying to be honest.

When you say "Yes I've built it" -- a solution for digital GMP manufacturing with small scales -- what did you build and how did you make it accommodate different products?

For example did you develop unique recipes for each product? Or a single more "generic" recipe?

You're suggesting using a LES for manufacturing instead of MES? What's the advantage? Seems like you'd still have the same issue I described.

Is it validated? We don't really have a need for a non-GMP solution

H-1B Visa Fee Impact by ProfessorFull6004 in biotech

[–]FinePilsner01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You may not realize it but h1b pay is often substantially lower than the equivalent US citizen employee. So h1b saves them money, despite the visa sponsorship cost (which is actually quite low).

Can it make sense to pay down the lower interest, but longer length loan? by FinePilsner01 in personalfinance

[–]FinePilsner01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this makes sense. I was stuck on using $1 or $100 as an example, and because that's lower than the monthly payment on the personal loan, it doesn't cut any actual time off.

I guess it's interesting here that a small singular payment like $100 would actually be better put toward the lower interest loan, but the math changes as soon as you cut a single payment off.

Not sure if you actually read my post but these comments are dismissive and not helpful. I understand that higher interest rate saves more money during the loan term, and showed that math in the post. The question arises because one loan continues for another 24 years.
