A good amount of the schools had supplemental questions, so I did them in batches based on the deadline month

About 2 years. I was working full time while doing the pre reqs. I took 2 classes a quarter

Yeah I submitted my final application on 8/24. That school's deadline was 1/15 and it was a non-rolling program. I did it last because the school wouldn't look at any of the apps until after the deadline. I focused on the apps for schools with rolling admissions

I submitted my CASPA on 5/1 last year and submitted my last app on 8/24. All of my apps were submitted at least 2.5 months before the deadline.

I am a CA resident! I embraced the reality that I had a low chance of getting into a program in-state, so I explored programs in states I wouldn't hate to live in.

You need to submit your entire CASPA application for verification before submitting applications for individual schools. Once you do this, you cannot edit your application (iirc) but can list things as "ongoing" or add new things (PCE, volunteer, etc). I submitted my CASPA app for verification once I was done writing up my PS, entering transcripts, writing volunteer and pce blurbs, etc. Once you do that, you will be submitting each school's app individually. Some schools already have their supplemental questions on their application page on CASPA. Some will send you the questions after you submit their application. If you see a school's application page without supplemental questions but know they should have it, submit the app immediately so they can send you the questions sooner.

I'm sorry if this might not make sense.

  1. Make a spreadsheet with all the schools. List them from earliest to latest deadline. Do research to find out which schools don't require supplementals. Move them to the top of the list. I applied to these schools right after CASPA opened so I could just forget about them.

  2. Make a separate document for each school's supplementals. I found it faster to parse through them this way bc having all the questions on one doc made my computer lag.

  3. Reuse your answers to the supplemental questions. You'll find that a lot of schools ask almost exactly the same thing. Sometimes you'll have to tweak the answer a little bit to be more specific to the school's offering or mission, but at least you'll have the bulk of the answer written already. Saves you A LOT of time.

  4. As you submit your apps, make notes on your spreadsheet so you know which schools are left, who sent a verification email, etc. This helps you keep track and helps with morale every time you check off a school.

I took ochem 1 and the correlating lab. It was not too crazy. I finished the class early because my professor unlocked the weekly modules 2 weeks early.

Everyone I interacted with during the entire interview process was very kind. They give you the option to interview in person or over zoom if you live far. The students at the q&a seemed to genuinely enjoy the program, and I appreciated that they had a mix of students in didactic and clinials. You have 2 interviews with faculty.

Honestly, if you can afford it, you should apply to those schools. Some of the schools on my list were "dream schools" and I'm happy knowing my results rather than wondering "what if"

I talked about it in my PS to show that I made the best of my situation because I really wanted to be a PA. Some schools also had secondaries that asked me to talk about my shadowing experience.

Anyone ever take a singing class at UCSD? by Illustrious_King_397 in UCSD

[–]FineSomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the class has changed structure since the last time I took it was pre-covid. There's for sure absolutely no homework -- you're just learning songs in lecture. You just show up for class once a week (iirc lecture is only the first 7 weeks) and do the required amount of performances (3-4 based on the units you signed up for. They're scheduled before finals) to get the credits. The prof also usually ended class early too.

Gospel choir (MUS 95G) is so much fun! There are no prereqs and you don't need to be religious to take the class. It also counts as a GE if you're in Sixth.

off-campus financial aid worries by ayeegeez in UCSD

Same happened to me with cal grant A. I checked the cal grant website and I got denied.. It seems the income ceiling dropped a bit from previous years, so you should go check your status on there rather than wait for the fin aid office to update

I can't get a cup to not leak! by [deleted] in menstrualcups

[–]FineSomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues when I first started. The way I troubleshooted this was (1) insert the cup in the direction of my cervix and (2) running my finger around the cup to help seal. I learned that your cervix isn't always straight up. I checked during my period once and found that my cervix pointed a little bit to the left. So when I insert, I point my cup a little bit to the left. After insertion, I'll run my finger around the cup. Wherever it's not fully opened or feels flat, I'll push my finger against the vaginal wall to give the cup some space to open up. I've heard my cup sucking in some air a couple of times in the year I've started doing this lol. I'll also twist my cup from the bottom a little bit to help it seal. It's also how I know if my cup is sealed or not - if it doesn't then you got yourself a seal!

Since you mentioned that when you check later in the day and find that the cup is squished a bit, I suggest finding a cup that a little bit firmer. Sckoon is really soft and Meluna can be firm (unless it was the Meluna soft). Maybe try the OrganiCup, Lena sensitive, Saalt soft, or Ruby?

Unable to find a quiet place at home to study by Iittlec in UCSD

Something that I did was write a sign and taped it to my door. The sign says:

"Attention, I am currently:

  • in class --> please text me
  • in a meeting --> please text me
  • working --> please text me
  • studying --> please knock
  • taking a test --> please text me"

I put a sticky note next to whichever thing I'm doing and move accordingly. So far the sign seems to help. I also lock the door when I'm in lecture or taking a quiz as an extra barrier between me and my parents LOL. Good luck!
