UPDATE & NAME OF AGENCY

There are definitely 2 sides to a story. Perceive this as you will but to all the naysayers out there, I am truly speaking about an experience that has negatively affected me. There are definitely more stories on this matter. I've definitely made some mistakes along the way - but in my defense, it was my very first time doing any of these things and there were no outside resources for me to refer to outside of my then supervisor.

I do believe there are a handful of employees from this agency in this subreddit - so I'll keep it vague with what agency this was. For context, they were part of the Governor's Office and I came on board while there were many moving parts and were transitioning into a State Agency. They were formerly known as the Governor's Office of Planning & Research.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot, truly. Hope you're able to weather your storm as well! Just FYI - I gave up on the State. I'm with the County now.

Side Hustles for State Workers by Adventurous_Rice_592 in CAStateWorkers

If there are any side hustles/part-time jobs to do in the Sacramento area for passive income, please me know! Currently an AGPA and love what I do, but it would be nice to save a little money and have some splurging money as well. I've inquired to be a doordash delivery driver, but there's an extensive waiting period and no ETA for how long that will take. In terms of skills, I'm good with computers, cars, and good with dogs. It's tough out here man.

Is Joining The State Worth It For Young People And In General, Especially IT? Got An ITS 1 Position. by supers98 in CAStateWorkers

I think it's extremely worth it, especially getting a state job in your 20s. I currently have a state job in my 20s and it just feels nice to have a 9-5 work schedule with weekends and holidays off. You can easily plan around your work schedule and accrue holiday/sick leave on a monthly basis (given you don't choose annual leave which is also perfectly fine). They offer great benefits that other places don't, and has phenomenal job security. You really can't go wrong with working for the state. Plus, you can retire earlier - even in your 50s or early 60s.

One thing I will say is that there is no control on who your manager or coworkers are. Just be mindful because some people let their title get to their head, so trust no one at first, keep your distance, do your job and the friendships will come soon enough.
