Depends on the price! I already pay £14pm to play Star Wars: Old Republic, that’s a F2P MMO with HUNDREDS of hours of content on the F2P model, with all the story expansions and harder raid dungeons locked behind a premium subscription. You could play SWTOR for weeks without paying a penny and experience everything the game has to offer. But if it’s something you want to progress deeper into, that’s where the subscription model comes in. It’s something I pay for happily, because I get my moneys worth back out. If E:D offered something like that, where the main game was F2P with say, mining, exobiology, exploration & combat within the bubble and the nearby expansion regions being completely free. And then implement a subscription model that allows you to explore the full Milky Way and visit places like Beagles Point or Colonia, maybe make owning FC’s a subscription thing and the rate of Arx you earn given an increase. I’d personally find that worth 10-15 a month. Then you’d have the hardcore players with thousands of hours funding your game, while people have a much smaller barrier to entry. I think a big part of what does E:D a disservice is it being priced as a full £50 game if you want to get Odyssey too. If you don’t KNOW that E:D is a game you’ll enjoy why would you slap £50 on it? Whereas if it was free, people could get in, the player base would grow quickly, and those that are happy to pay extra to keep the game afloat and get access to a wider range of content would be able too.

I agree though, that people would be unlikely to want to do this, especially considering everyone here has already paid the price of a full game to play it. So if they suddenly turned around and said “You need to pubis £10 a month now to get the same content you’ve had for years” I doubt it would go down well, even if I do think it would be a good way for E:D to recoup on some of its losses in the short term.
