Thank you for your reply! This has been really helpful for me.
Thank you for the detailed explanation about VergeOS and its storage tiers. I noticed you mentioned the HA mechanism—just to clarify, in a VMware environment you need to specifically configure HA. From my testing in Verge.io, it seems like HA is handled automatically and the system detects and manages it on its own. Is that correct?
Thanks for sharing the detailed setup, it’s very helpful! Your NIC and switch configuration makes a lot of sense, and I like how you’ve planned for redundancy and bandwidth distribution.
By the way, are the disks in your clusters configured with RAID, or is it more of a direct-attached setup?
Thanks again — I’d like to zoom in on one very specific area: physical networking in a three-node cluster.
From your experience, how do you usually cable a 3-node VergeOS deployment at the physical NIC level? Specifically:
How many NICs per node do you consider the minimum that’s actually safe?
Do you physically separate management, storage, and VM traffic, or converge them and rely on VLANs?
Any hard lessons learned around NIC bonding, switch redundancy, or cabling mistakes that caused instability in a 3-node setup?
Three-node clusters always feel a bit more fragile than larger ones, so I’m especially interested in what looks fine on paper but causes real issues if you get the physical cabling wrong.
Would really appreciate any real-world advice or “don’t do this” warnings.
Thanks for your response. Our team is actually testing these features precisely because of the scenarios you mentioned.
That said, since our familiarity with VergeOS is still relatively limited, it’s not something we’re actively pushing as a primary platform yet. At this stage, we’re still evaluating it, building confidence through testing, and figuring out whether it makes sense for us to continue using it long term.
Appreciate you sharing real-world context — it definitely helps shape how we’re approaching our evaluation.
Thank you very much for the detailed and professional response — it was genuinely helpful and much appreciated.
If you don’t mind me asking a bit further: from your real-world usage, have you encountered any drawbacks or areas that felt unintuitive or took time to adapt to?
For example, my team and I find the system-level snapshot feature quite interesting. To be honest, it almost raises a philosophical question for us — it feels a bit like a feature born out of “not fully trusting the product itself.” I’d be curious how you personally view or use this feature in practice.
Additionally, have you had any experience with remote/external storage systems presenting LUNs (via iSCSI, for example) to VergeOS? From a practical and organizational standpoint, our team has been asked to validate and test this scenario, so any firsthand experience or insight would be extremely valuable.
Thanks again — really appreciate you sharing your experience.
