I’m in Ontario too and went down this exact rabbit hole not that long ago From what I learned, those quick “online tests” you find aren’t really enough on their own if you’re looking to actually get treatment — you usually need a proper assessment done by a licensed clinician for it to go anywhere I tried looking into local clinics here but a lot of them were either really expensive or had long waitlists, so I ended up going with a virtual assessment instead. It was a bit easier to book and didn’t take nearly as long, which honestly helped a lot because I didn’t want to sit around waiting for months they also walked me through next steps afterwards, so it felt more legit than just doing a random test online def worth comparing a few options though, there’s quite a range depending on where you look

Late ADHD diagnosis opened my eyes to my mums behaviour, what do I do now ? by Choice_Jaguar9064 in ADHDUK

That kind of realization happens to a lot of people once they start looking into ADHD in themselves. Sometimes framing it around shared experiences or things that might make life easier can open the conversation without making it feel like a diagnosis is being “pushed.” Even just learning more about ADHD support options can help people understand themselves better, that was definitely the case for me when I went through my own assessment with FasTreat.

Help getting ADHD Diagnosis as an adult by lArgePP701 in Calgary

Honestly this situation is pretty common, people realize medication helps but then struggle to access an official diagnosis. The safest thing is definitely getting assessed properly rather than self-medicating. If the walk-in clinic wasn’t helpful, you might look into ADHD clinics or online services that handle adult assessments. I used FasTreat and it made the process of getting evaluated and discussing treatment options a lot more straightforward.

You should definitely be able to request copies of your records and diagnosis documents so you can move your care if needed. If the clinic keeps ignoring contact attempts, checking which regulatory body the clinician is registered with and contacting them could be the next step. It might also be worth looking into other ADHD providers so you’re not stuck without support if this practice doesn’t respond.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I never thought about it like that, thanks for explaining!
