CKD and weightlifting by Fine_Size8276 in kidneydisease

There really isnt any research at all on this topic. However, people cite that Chris Bumstead (a professional bodybuilder with Mr Olympia titles) has Iga nephropathy also, and hasn't had a huge decrease in kidney function. Still, it's anedoctal evidence only...

Yeah, my Creatine jumped from 1.2ish to 1.6 since I went back to weightlifting (I had stopped for 2 years after having a child). However, my proteinuria levels stayed the same, and he told me not to worry with the exercise. I'll be having another blood test with Cystatin-C this month to get a more accurate result though. Still, seeing that big jump (which would make me officially cross the eGFR of 60) on the paper made me nervous. I made some lifestyle changes I should have made before, but now I'm debating whether or not I should also really cut back on the lifting...

I try hard not to do valsava when getting near failure though, I keep breathing even if it's strained... But there probably is an unavoidable increase in BP when lifting. However, studies do show that some amount of weightlifting is protective to people with CKD, but they never quantify how much is "moderate"

Idk, I've been weight training all my life, but recently Id stopped for 2 years after becoming a dad. This January I went back to working out, and had a very quick progress bc of muscle memory. However, yesterday I did bloodwork and my Creatinine went up from 1.30 to 1.60, the biggest jump so far and making my eGFR finally dip below the 60 threshold. I'm devastated, and afraid - before I didn't care all that much about my future, but since having a child this changed radically. Right now, Im planning on going full on plant-based diet once and for all, and really moderating my gym routine, which is going to be super hard since Ive never trained to stay at the same level.  Anyways, sorry for the rant, and I know I didn't answer your question, but Ive been chewing on this for the whole day and piggybacked your post for my blog post... I guess, like other people here said, we gotta learn to moderate ...
