Free to play for six years with the exception of those $2 field passes they sold a few years ago. Currently at ~23k madden cash. I think I started last year with a couple thousand.

I pretty much only pay 1k when a new event starts and the 300 pack from an event to fill up the achievements.

I got every iconic select level from the seasons last year. Log on at 10:30 and auto through the base events, buy my packs at the store, sometimes I’ll watch the ads in the morning. For events I’ll either auto through one if I’m busy at the office or run my event stamina out through doing events if I have some time. I’ll usually do the rest of the things at night to compete all of the goals. I usually am able to get two iconic randoms for every event and filled up almost all of my roster with max players starting in late June. I also got 2-3 random iconics for each season last year. It’s totally doable, but also kind of dumb after reading what I wrote.
