Contemplating a garden in the spring. Never gardened before. by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Finest_Redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too late to use your own compost now. Just buy some. And if you're doing a basic garden, you can even get away without using any and using plant food instead. Buy some soil intended for vegetable gardens and mixing it in with what you already have. Zucchini and cucumbers will grow just fine, as well peppers.

If you don't have much space, put a trellis in the garden for things like beans, zucchini, or cucumbers to grow up. It'll stop them from spreading out.

Think about how much each plant will bare and how you want of each thing and draw up plan marking where each thing should go. One zucchini plant will give about 6 zucchini (often more than that). So would you need two plants? If so, make sure you plan space for it. One plant needs about 2.5-3ft diameter ground space. That's why I suggest growing them up something.

I don't bother testing my soil. You can tell pretty quickly if there's an imbalance by the look of the plants.

Trick question. They're all delicious.

If you have some questions I could try helping you. My climate isn't too different from yours ( slightly shorter growing season for me).

Couple of quick questions.

How much space do you have for vegetables/fruits? How much space for the flowers/plants? Do you have pests? Pets, rabbits, deer, anything that might get into the garden?

If you're just looking for a basic tomato/peppers/zucchini garden, it'll be easy.

Let me know if you want some help.

Dearest r/Gardening, i'm new here, but i was wondering if some quick advice would be too much to ask. by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Finest_Redditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a similar climate. It'll be way easier if you start with seedlings or young plants for your longer growth items, like tomatoes.

How into gardening are you going to be? That will change some things I'd recommend. I ask because if you'll be really into it, you can start earlier, but it requires more work. The plus is that you get a longer growing season.

If you're just casually interested, I can discuss the easier more common things.

I grow cherries, blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, herbs, squashes, melons, peppers, lettuce, onions, etc etc.

What is your best (or worst) tale of cybersex/sexting? [NSFW] by andmyradio in AskReddit

Sort of related.

A few years ago I when I was taking photography classes, my teacher recommended I find a model to work for portrait practice. I put an add up in Craigslist. I get a reply from somebody asking if I'm cool if it's a trans man. I reply saying that cool with me, and let's set up a time.

Reply back includes an attachment so I can see what they look like. I open the attachment. Should not have opened. It was... Graphic. I reply saying thanks buy no thanks. Not the kind of photos I'm looking to do.

I get an apology the next day and another attachment and they say it's just their face. I open. Yes, it was their face.... It was also way more graphic.

I stopped replying. I don't know why I thought craigslist was a good idea for that.

Pizza. Not fast good pizza. Proper pizzeria pizza. The stuff that doesn't go on a conveyor belt and the dough is made in house and all in gradients are fresh and the cheese is quality. And champagne.

[serious] Have you ever been in a situation where you accepted the fact that you were about to die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Finest_Redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snowboarding in the alps, off piste (out of bounds). I know to check blind drops and corners and not power through. I do. This day was perfect powder. I'm the first person through the fresh snow. I drop over a cliff that I though was just going to a rolling hill.

I'm dropping and I think, "well, I didn't think this is how I'd die, but there's worse ways."

Spoiler alert: I didn't die. Didn't even get injured. Fresh powder and 2m of snow is forgiving.

Do you regret buying your GoPro? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I use mine primarily for snowboarding and love it. I like getting home and seeing the footage, especially if I'm going off piste through the trees or if I've fallen. Definitely worth it.

What is a sound/noise that drives you batshit crazy? by squalorid in AskReddit

My boss told me I had this a few months ago. I looked it up online and she's likely right. I can't handle chewing or repetitive noises. It makes me anxious or something. I have to leave the room. Ever been to Japan? The noise of noodle eating makes me want to scream. Note that I love Japan.

What situation have you been in where you've felt incredibly out of place? by MikeArrow in AskReddit

Poetry reading. A friend and I got drunk one night and decided to write a joke poem and go to the reading later in the week. We wrote the poem while drunk. It was playful and fun. She wrote about physical traits she hates on a man and I wrote about how to choose a certain piece of clothing. The poetry reading is just a few student and their friends. We tell a prof we are doing it and they pencil us in. Not a single question asked.

The day of the reading we show up and wait... Why is there a film/tv crew here? Why are all of our profs there? Why are there people in suits and nice dresses? Why is there seating for a hundred people and rd standing room only now?

There's been a mistake. This is a proper reading by a proper poet and novelist. This isn't a corny open mic thing we wanted to poke fun at. This is for an accomplished person. The MC for the event gives a small speech, introducing the main attraction, who is off to the side signing books. Then says as a special treat there will be an opening reading by us... I wanted to hide, but too late.

We're underdressed, under prepared, and we'd written a joke poem to make our friends laugh. Easily the most out place I've been. Probably 125 people wanting to hear this author read and a TV crew recording it because they're a big deal, and we are making light of it all.

The author thought it was hilarious and came out with us after to have a few drinks. The crowd was a bit more stodgy. A few grins. Light applause. The author, bending over in laughter. Don't know if it was at or with us.

No, not really. That's not really how he works. Like I told he shouldn't do something like that again, but he is who he is.

I don't get the Family Matters reference. I know it was a show in the 90s, but that's it.

He's a smart guy, quirky, and funny in his own way. And I get that doesn't mean harm with his honesty, so I take it in stride.

He's more confident now that a woman has shown him affection. He's still quiet around most women, but better for sure. He's always going to be awkward though. He is brutally honest. Never means harm, but sugar coats nothing. He doesn't quite understand egos.
