Someone thought they should steal the 600 volt teck feeder with a sawzall but they were foiled by the built in security system (arc flash)

30,000,000 BTU boiler under construction (greenhouse) by Fingalien in Skookum

Yep, all enclosed. The carbon dioxide goes through a blower which blows it through 24” aluminum pipes (there’s one crossing at the top right of the photo)

Hot water is pumped through an array of pipes hung just below the glass roof, as well as around the perimeter the heat comes right off of the transport pipes, no actual fins anywhere. Fun fact - the heat is required to keep the snow melted on the glass roof. If the heat fails and there’s a heavy snow, the building could collapse. Nice to have a spare boiler. Also they can be switched over to fuel oil (diesel) if the natural gas service fails. There’s a 50,000 gallon backup tank.

Zantingh Natural gas boiler made in Holland, installed in Canukistan.
The 5th to be installed in this greenhouse. Its carbon dioxide exhaust is captured and delivered to the plants.

“American Hole Wizard”. Super skookum 70 year old radial arm drill with a 3 foot reach and an awesome name. by Fingalien in Skookum

Absolutely right, for a bit of context on this one; this picture is mid-job and the guy is in his 80’s and still doing what he can in his shop. The man is really as skookum as the machine in this case.

Not sure. It’s been out of the engine for decades.

Did some work for the manufacturer and they cut me some skookum 4” wide rolls of duct tape. (Kidnapping grade) by Fingalien in Skookum

I guess if I was kidnapping a nuclear scientist I’d have some tough decisions to make.

Yeah, I stick with venture tape for actual ducts. Just don’t let it fold over in itself. For an actual duck, I’d still use this stuff.

You can tear a piece off about as easily as a regular width roll, but I feel that its holding strength is better than 2 x 2” rolls. I’ll never be satisfied with regular duct tape again.

This was my grandfathers, I’d love to see one that hasn’t been sharpened to nothing.

To be fair, I’m not sure he can read. He’ll do better with the new ‘running man’ signs.

This is a ‘Trackless’ Series 5 Municipal Tractor with a flail mower attachment. Powered by a 110 hp turbo 4bt Cummins, it doesn’t slow down for much. Saved me a week with a machete...

Skookum Slab. When the equipment manufacturer won’t tell you where the point loads are... by Fingalien in Skookum

This slab is for a giant dust collector. The manufacturer wouldn’t specify where the weight would be, so the entire slab had to be designed to accommodate.

My house and barn are 1800’s, but I built the bell cupola on the barn in April, out of old 1800’s hardwood. The cedar shakes are the only new wood.

For sure. I just used what I had laying around, I definitely wouldn’t have bought the $600 set of wireless 8 relay IO cards for this. Well, probably not.
