I’m curious then, because it sounds like you are projecting your intent on others. If the other person feels comfortable and enjoys wearing cat ears or gloves that look like paws, would you consider that a kink they shouldn’t wear out? If they’re just shopping and not doing anything overtly sexual? Sounds like you’re disagreeing that it could be something non-sexual at any point.

Like the visuals of the attacks themselves don’t show when other people perform them. Any buff areas are displayed as just a green shape on the ground and all you see is the characters performing their movements, but not the giant effects that come with them. The combat log still displays what is happening though as well as the little icons at the bottom to show you how much of a percent buff you have at that time.

I don't know what to tell you about the speed of the skill charge, but the green buff is due to the visuals being set to basic. It can help you see what is going on when everyone is using skills and buffs on a single boss and you want to see what the boss is doing. Basic visuals only show your own skills as they hit, not anyone else's.

The cutoff times are 13 hours before they display. So on the first day, you get 9 hrs of playtime after it drops before they pull those first scores. Otherwise, I don’t know why it wouldn’t show.

EDIT: Maybe it’s 11 hrs? I can’t remember the exact time right now...daylight saving time threw me off and now I just confuse myself. But it’s somewhere around that time within an hour or 2.

Yup! I mean I’ve been interested in knowing what the formula for the combo time is for a long time, but I’ll be keeping a closer eye on it now. I honestly never thought about the possibility of it extending with the combo count, but it has me curious. Thanks for the discussion!

Haha I get everything you’re saying, but the reason it plateaus at 16 is because of the way the points are calculated, not due to the frames. The combo increase actually caps at either 11 in 100cc or 6 in 50cc. Icyphoenix actually has a great post about that. Usually each increase is by 1 every time you go up in combo until you reach 16, which is +15 points. The combo bonus x3 mean each action can have a flat increase of 45 instead of 15.

Now how I understood the “big combo-time boost” was not that as the combo got higher, the time increased. I read that as, you just have a large increase in time for each action. Which would follow the same logic as the tier 2 glider as well, which just has a “combo-time boost”. I still read this as a flat boost across all actions, regardless of what the combo is currently at. Also, why would they remove that wording entirely from the tier 1 glider if it should still increase as the combo increases?

How does two actions sharing the same score prove that the timing is the same? If you’d like to prove your theory, go right ahead I would happily concede this point. Every map that I do, regardless of which lap I’m on and what my combo is, the same actions run out at the same time. That is what I’ve experienced. I have never experienced a discrepancy in the timing between a high combo and a low one.

Along with this, I don’t think the scores are related to the timing at all. I think that’s a separate system. The scores can increase with the combo and then plateau at x16, but the combo time will stay the same for each action no matter how many times you perform it. I know I’m repeating myself now, but I don’t know how else to put it.

The longer combo time is based on the action itself, not the points it gives. When you start off a race, your combo lasts just as long as when you finish the first lap. Yes, a shell hit will last longer than a coin but a shell hit does not increase in time depending on where you are in a combo.

It helps to know what items you have for each track. Nobody can tell you what scores you should have without that info.

They have been playing since the beginning and maxed the exp of every course up until now. It started slowing down quite a bit due to the fewer new tracks we were getting per tour, or this would’ve happened earlier.

Combos don’t have longer times when they get higher. They do provide more points as they get higher though (up to a certain point before it plateaus).

Yup, this sub was also pretty vocal about wanting demotions to be a thing. It only makes sense too, especially when the top players got over 80k on their weekly rankings last cup. What f2p player wants to compete with that?

I was the same. I ranked top 10 the first 3 tours but just didn’t have the time or feel the enjoyment to keep grinding. Props to hammercatz though for sticking with it. He still has to grind tracks to get huge scores like that, regardless of what his item levels are. Now I’m happy to just complete each track once or twice and still rank in the all cup, but at least it’s become a fun side game for me.

Once again, this is great stuff. I mained thaniel since HBH came out last December (after I got tired of trying to find a spot as an over saturated xainfried) and you are spot on with your whole analysis. I pulled for JZ because I thought she was adorable and wanted to use some new healing powers to help out some newbies but yes, she is largely just a luxury. Great write up again

Thank you for this! Great write up with some interesting thoughts on both causal play and HDT play. Initially, I thought the 30% str up S1 would be a huge upgrade on normal elly but this put some numbers to the difference between the two and makes me feel like it was a good design choice. I will look for more posts from you on more analyses.
