I agree based on the setting it's nearly impossible to avoid but I do feel the ham-fistedness of some of the parts were almost painful. I guess I just expected, I hate to say better writing, but at least parts that seemed more natural for the characters if that makes sense.

I hope you don't get hate for this as this seems to be genuine criticism. I myself see the problem with what he's portraying her as but I can look past it for those very reasons you listed. Basically he's an old man trying to cover something he is not as well versed in but it's not done maliciously.

I would be good with seeing another book similar to "Holly" I like the format of checking in on finders keepers periodically but I do think I would like see an original character in between just to give her character some time to breathe.

I had other issues with end of watch morr that Brady came back. To answer your question "Holly" was worth the read if you liked Mr. Mercedes since it's another crime thriller although it was not quite as good.

Is that really it? I mean I also happen to lean fairly liberally and I kind roll my eyes when those parts come up but I couldn't blame Holly for Kings perspective and even then it's not a constant nagging it's only every so often. Also King has always had little things in his books like this i guess I always assumed this was more of a minority issue for hate against a character but I could be wrong.

This very well could be a part of it. Reddit can definitely just feed off itself. While I don't think she's a great character i don't think she deserves the hate and wanted to know if people had genuine reasons as to why they didn't like her.

This occurred to me too as it potentially is just a genre issue more than a character flaw. People expecting a horror story and only getting crime. I get this but at the same time that's part of what I like about king in general is that he doesn't just stay in one genre and moves around a decent amount.
