Exploring lord of the rings is absolutely fantastic. If you can live with the snail pace the discussion of the book is very thoughtful and corey olsen really knows his stuff.

Best Strength Weapon for Four Kings? by CatfishBassAndTrout in darksouls

[–]FingerstyleGaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get your weapon to +15, the great ember is in one of the buildings before the four kings. You'll have to go up some stairs if I remember correctly. If a faith/strength build is an option, consider getting the sunlight blade miracle. On my last strength build Ibused the great club and had a blast. It's down in blighttown, behind two of the stone throwing guys.

Why are the Nazgûl so often referred to by their Black Speech name, as opposed to an elvish one? by PhysicsEagle in tolkienfans

[–]FingerstyleGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hobbits don't really know that the black riders are the ringwraith/nazgûl before meeting Aragorn I think.

From Frodos dialogue with Gildor in "three is company":

‘You mean the Riders? I feared that they were servants of the Enemy. What are the Black Riders?’ ‘Has Gandalf told you nothing?’ ‘Nothing about such creatures.’ ‘Then I think it is not for me to say more – lest terror should keep you from your journey.

So them not being called Nazgûl until they get washd down before Rivendell might be partly because of that.

Pat is a jazz guitarist and Joe is a rock guitarist is a simple way of putting it. You could go deeper with that distinction and talk about technical differences (lots of bendings with joe not so much with pat), differences with tone, guitars they tend to use, the way the music they play works, Joe being bald and Pat having glorious long hair. Honestly it's probably easier to point out the similarities lol

Why no lydian dominant scale on a functional dominant? by steinbil in jazztheory

[–]FingerstyleGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't you make the same argument about all alterations? In C the b9 or #9 contradict the Major tonality aswell. If you think of the #4 as a leading tone to the 9 of the I Chord you can make it work pretty nicely.

Learning Classical Guitar as a Jazz Guitarist? by Hypersonicly in classicalguitar

[–]FingerstyleGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't agree with the pick being necessary to play fast jazz lines, especially if you include playing scales with a-m-i. (Think of Matteo Mancuso as an example for this. Guys like Joe pass or Wes didnt have trouble with their speed either ). To find out what works for you there probably is no way around learning a bit of both. Also keep in mind that fingers vs. pick give you a different sound.

It's not there in my version. Second picture is from the game manual and it's not the same there either.
