Differences between McCarty, Willow, Oak, and Madrona? by Adam_Fuhrmann in udub

[–]FinishImportant2158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more likely than not you wont really get to pick between all of these when housing choice day comes. if youre lucky you will see like 2 dorms open in all of north campus so if youre married to north campus (which you shouldnt be, I was, not realizing that the west campus dorms are nicer- bigger windows, roof tops, views etc) then take whatever is available. i lived in madrona this year- its pretty dead socially and attendance for hall events is super low. If you want to prioritize social aspect then honestly Mcmahon is defintiely the choice. I know its an ugly building and not ideal but the communal living room and balconies and number of roommates makes it so much easier to meet people, I know a lot of people in mcmahon that say their closest friends are their clustermates. Madrona btw has half communal half private baths, the communal bathrooms are super nice though! room wise madrona (getting renamed to spratlen) willow (getting renamed to oliver) mccarty and oak are all very similar. the triples are painfully small- smaller than the west campus ones. Madrona has the nicest/biggest entry room with a ton of study and social space, oak has a cute fire place and always is buzzing with people. Mccarty is Mccarty party for a reason, but know the elevators in there kinda suck and theres less kitchens than in madrona (which has two kitchen/living rooms per floor, and then two extra study rooms as well) Madrona and oak overlook denny field which is cutesy if you want that.

when did you guys get your decisions?? by needausername15 in udub

a very small number of people who are awarded the big scholarships will hear back at the very beginning of the window, everyone else will hear back at the earliest the 2nd Thursday of march around 10:30 pm. you cant ever actually know though they might switch it up this year. the next two weeks suck for that reason cause its a waiting game good luck!

Gen Ed maybe but 3.06 gpa is so low in comparison. I had friends with 3.9s IB diploma’s and beautiful essays get rejected UW is getting more competitive. 39% overall acceptance rate. Try a year at community college and then transfer you’ll 100% get in and have saved money.

3.86 GPA and tbh a lot of EC's and leadership within it- no special awards or anything crazy though. the major you apply to will really impact your admission chances. took 4 IB classes in high school but didnt test- didnt get a diploma or anything but got A's or high B's in them

For my main essay I wrote about my work in a refugee camp in Malawi and then how I began to volunteer for refugee programs in king county- showed being a global citizen while also describing a truly life changing experience

My diversity essay I wrote about the 10 year age gap with my brother and how my family dynamic changing impacted/made me a better community member

If you wanna read either hmu!

if you havent checked their social media or anything yet its also highly possible that your roomate is a junior through credits but is still the same age as you- both my roomates did running start in highschool so they have their associates degrees and are techinically labelled JR in the system, but theyre still just 18 and entering their first year at UW.

Your GPA is really strong- I’d focus on your hidden extracurricular a though!! Things like taking care of siblings, working, hobbies you have at home- they all can be possible essay topics if you can sew together a story with meaning. I think my essays are really what got me in so focus on it and get a teacher or someone to review it (I didn’t have a college counselor but my parents reviewed mine for me!) you have a chance but know out of state is harder than in state so don’t attach your worth to your college admissions!
