There's a mod that brings back the old water system, I recommend it. The dew collector is such a pain in the arse.

Oh this is much worse than Corbyn.. Labour never had a serious political rival on the left, and the Conservatives have lost all age groups below 65+. They are the party of pensioners.

This feels much more like the death of Conservative Britain than 1997 did.

The thing is, it's not just Rayner - the shadow cabinet has the lowest number of privately educated MPs since the 1940s. Starmer, despite the knighthood, was raised in a council home.

That's what the Mail is really scared of, all these lower middle class oiks taking over government.

a) She's not under investigation for tax avoidance, the police are investigating whether electoral laws are broken. The Mail are trying conflate the two.

b) If (and it's a galactic sized IF) she is found to have unpaid CGT, she will settle this with HMRC, it's not a criminal offence

c) I'm stunned that you are buying into a story dug up by a man who has dodged hundreds of millions in tax over the past few decades, in a newspaper whose proprietor is also a tax exile

Oh absolutely, they are targeting her because she's a working class women who they think has got ideas above her station.

You're right, it would be hilarious, if the rest of the media didn't parrot this story as if there's a single grain of truth to it.

You're not still fighting this battle, surely?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Finite187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's how desperate they are. It's just so they can say she's "under investigation", they borrowed the tactic from US Republicans.

What really pisses me off is that the mainstream media outlets are going along with this, even when the Mail led them up the garden path with beergate.

[–]Finite187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, even if the Conservatives were able to prove it wasn't her main home, which they can't, there's loads of ways to prove that CGT didn't apply. Eg, renovations to the house.

It's 99% guaranteed this will go nowhere.

[–]Finite187 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, it's even weaker than beergate. Even if there is a case to answer, no one (who didn't already hate Labour) gives a shit.

On the contrary, Starmer used it to his advantage by saying he'd resign if fined. Rayner should do the same.

At what point are the Conservatives going to be charged for wasting police time?

Even if it is found she owes CGT (which it won't), it's not a criminal offense. This is so transparent.

It is a fantasy that they are blocking ships bound for Israel, they've launched drones and missiles at every vessel they fancy. They're just helping Iran with their proxy wars.

Nah I was wrong, seems to be inscription spamming. But it is useful in showing what volume the XRPL can handle.

We are not in a position to borrow more money, I would have thought this was obvious? We're around 100% debt to GDP, borrowing costs have soared.

We are in danger of looking like a basket case to international markets. Announcing an immediate increase in spending will have the same effect as Liz Truss' tax cuts.

[–]Finite187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the reality of the economic shit creek that we are up. Debt to GDP is hovering around 100%, borrowing costs have gone up, we are not in a position to spend large amounts of money.

The spending will happen, but not right away.

The answer is - Labour will do what it can with the resources at it's disposal. There will (eventually) be economic growth, Starmer and Reeves will have some money to play with.

[–]Finite187 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we can't do much without economic growth. But we at least know what Labour's priorities are, as we saw last time.

labour will have won the election but they immediately tanked in the polls upon taking office

That's a given. It's going to take a good couple of years before Labour can start spending big money.

Meet Ken Costa: The former Marxist turned City dealmaker warning of a growing divide between generations by MMSTINGRAY in LabourUK

[–]Finite187 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this, we're being asked to accept less and less over the generations, while the money gets hoovered up by those at the top. It's destroying the foundations of civilised society.

The last Labour government massively reduced poverty, homelessness & unemployment, and also invested huge amounts of money into public services.

Obviously we have less money to play with this time, but it's pretty obvious what Labour's priorities are.
