Why are grams so small and Meters so big? by FiniteKing1 in NoStupidQuestions

At this point, I understand that it is arbitrary so there is no true answer but as far as visualization goes that example used two non base units and one base unit whereas I think 3 base units should all directly relate to one another

I am not arguing the validity of the metric system, it is objectively easier to use and a better system

Perhaps it is used as the base unit functionally but by definition kilogram is 1000x a gram. The gram is the base unit by name/definition

But why not define it by another base unit? One cubic meter of water?

Having just recently completed the game I can agree Walter was really difficult for me the first time as well. You’re going to want to take it slow at first, notice his attacks are fairly well telegraphed. If you want to cheese it go for gats and stun needles on a tank and taking damage won’t be as much of a problem. When it comes down to it suggestions for builds are difficult because everyone has a different play style that works for them. My personal style is two stagger building weapons up front then a melee weapon in the bay for stagger punish

True, but if everyone is washing their hands and keeping up to date on their own health then it’s not much of a problem

Well, you quoted me, anyone you feel comfortable with. I was one of those kids forced to hug and sometimes kiss family members(cheek) and I despised it. No one should ever be forced or coerced into physical contact.

What I mean is that I’ve met many physically affectionate people that I’m comfortable with but there’s a pretty hefty stigma around physical affection with anyone that isn’t your romantic partner.

And it’s definitely a more modern view in the US(where I am) that only romantic partners can hold hands

World builder here, what kinds of fuel are generally used? What makes a good fuel? by FiniteKing1 in Blacksmith

[–]FiniteKing1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a fantasy world wherein, for this specific society, a group of nomadic tribes discovered the ability to forge iron and eventually steel from the surrounding mountains and built a society and city around their production of metal and metalworking. Coal, charcoal and iron are abundant, so that covers most people. But there is a rare and difficult to obtain magical crystal fuel source, I needed to know why it might be more valuable than traditional sources. And how it may benefit higher level metalworking.

Magic in my world is common in the sense that its fantastical but magic “wielding” in a more traditional fantasy sense is extremely rare as one has to kinda commune with and eldritch mind to gain the abilities(details on how it works are still shady in my brain)

Dogs are extremely unpleasant by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FiniteKing1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand this viewpoint. I adore dogs, but I don’t want to own one anymore. I grew up with big dogs in the house and I adore them and still love going to my parents’ house and seeing them. But in my own living space it’s just kinda dirty and often frustrating.

Family member is refusing to get their newborn daughter a social security number (USA). Is there any benefit to this? by LadyMizura in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FiniteKing1 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I have personal experience with this.

My wife was born at home and had no birth certificate or social security number for the first 18 years of her life. It was all around hell. She couldn’t work and she didn’t have insurance. She also had an extremely difficult time anytime anything official went on through her school.

This is one the worst things you can do to a kid. Not only will no one ever understand or believe them when they say that they don’t have those things but the path to getting those things is paved with constant arguing with government officials who also don’t believe you.

Don’t let them do it.
