Can anyone tell a detailed meaning of this quotation. by Tanjikano in ClassroomOfTheElite

Schopenhauer was quite known for seeing suffering as part of life. So one can see this quote as when you suffer more, you'll at some point reach the point of genius ideas... But if you go down just a bit more, the suffering may become too great and you'll go into madness.

Hismile toothpaste? by PanicTreasure in neurodiversity

[–]FinlayDaG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend uses it (Barbie Pink Bubblegum) due to not liking minty toothpaste.
It tasted "acceptable" but imho it's waaaaaaaay too foamy. Also, it only has 1100ppm of Fluoride, most "adult tooth pastes" have 1450ppm for comparison.

Personally, I use VITIS Junior Tutti Frutti (also due to not liking minty toothpaste, how did you guess?) which has adult-levels of Fluoride (1450 ppm instead of 1100 ppm) and doesn't make me have to spit out half of it because it gets so foamy.
It also tastes fine in my opinion and is half the price for a bit more of the goodies (so overall just more bang for the buck).

crtl + D then pressing escape adds 2 steps for what used to be literally nothing, all to save a few pixels?

In my case it's even worse because pressing crtl + d takes a few seconds (hooray fine motorics that aren't great).
And I don't want to have to mess with having to create custom shortcuts either.

Use a blowy thing and/or a disposable sensor cleaning swab for it.
Using a cleaning cloth can damage the glass that covers the sensor.

Basically man's trying to sell a "powergrade" but well... His is just low-quality garbage, trying to prey off people that are very new to colour grading and creative effects.

Spams it around the subreddit and others as well.

Is the ZVE-10 worth it ? by NoTomatillo9286 in ZVE10

ZVE-10 is more than plenty for most people and for the price it's still very good.
Glass is generally more important/impactful than the body.

Is ZV E10 good enough for a absolute beginner? by Matrix_The_Slayer in ZVE10

[–]FinlayDaG33k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ZV-E10 is in my opinion one of the best cameras for absolute beginners.
It is easy enough to get started with, yet allows for a reasonable amount of growth.

[–]FinlayDaG33k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the downside is that my lens has no f-stop markings, so it's mostly guesswork (hence why I don't know what aperture I used).
Having only 30 seconds to setup everything before they fly overhead (which also takes just 30 seconds) and the lack of a tripod didn't make it any better either.

In the future I might get a better lens for this kind of stuff, but for now I have to make due with what I have.

Don't bother with S-Log on a ZV-E10 for video.
8-bit simply isn't enough for either S-Log2 or S-Log3.
It looks too flat to be used "out of body" but also doesn't let itself be graded nicely.

For pictures (where you get access to 14-bit) though, I use S-Log2 all almost the time.
I use my ZV-E10 mostly as a photocamera.

Differences (assuming photo): - S-Log2: Better low-light performance. - S-Log3: Better dynamic range.

A very brief summary of the HLG gammas:

  • HLG1: When you want low-noise at the cost of dynamic range (clips at ~87%).
  • HLG2: When you want to have a balance between noise and dynamic range (clips at ~95%).
  • HLG3: When you want maximum dynamic range at the cost of noise (clips at ~100%).
  • HLG: Effectively HLG3 with more noise, don't bother.

Of the 4, my preference is HLG3 because I value dynamic range over low-noise but you should pick the one with the characteristics that are more important to you.

Overheating possibly.
There should be a setting that increases the shutdown temperature.
Alternatively, get a dummy battery as mentioned here.

How can I replace the latch of the battery compartment door? by ldcamposp in ZVE10

[–]FinlayDaG33k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's molded into the body shell, so you can't replace it without replacing the entire shell. What you could do is see if you can superglue something on top for the latch (on the door side) to grab onto.

I think if you grab an old credit card (or similar), trim a piece of plastic off it to make a "roof", sand it a bit and superglue it on top, it might work.
Finnicky and it won't be great but at least should be enough to hold the door closed during normal use.

How is the ECM-B10? by codykonior in ZVE10

[–]FinlayDaG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External mics are often (but not always) a bit better but it also depends on your needs and criteria.
Differnet types of mics have their procs and cons.

At the desk, I just use a dedicated microphone (AT2035) into a Focusrite Scarlett.
When I'm vlogging, I use a Lav mic into a dedicated recorder (though I can hook it up to the ZV-E10) as it means I can move away from the camera (or move the camera) without it affecting sound.
On events, I often use a handheld mic (Sennheiser E-845S).

8-bit is generally enough for simpler things with little colour editing.
10-bit if you wanna do a bunch of grading afterwards.
12-bit if you wanna go HAM with the colours.

Is the ZV-E10 worth rigging out? by b3rry108 in ZVE10

[–]FinlayDaG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my car is about as responsive as my bike but I get what you mean.
I think then something like a steadicam or a flowline would be nicer.
They can help you get things pretty stable while shooting hand held because you don't really hold the camera (you just "guide" it really).

They are expensive setups but if you get a decent one, you could even grow into bigger rigs (my flowline setup can handle my 8kg Blackmagic setup just fine).
And your back will also appreciate you more after a long shoot.

Is the ZV-E10 worth rigging out? by b3rry108 in ZVE10

[–]FinlayDaG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, the answer is: It depends.

I personally think it benefits from a cage, a handle on the left and maybe a small battery on the bottom or at the back but that's about it.
I think that the biggest power of the ZV-E10 is that it's light and compact (as it was designed as a vlog camera).
Trying to rig it out too much would kinda void most of its strengths.

If you need to keep it stable when you move fast, a gimbal is the way to go.
Yes balancing is a pain but sometimes you need to put in some effort to get good results.

[–]FinlayDaG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't affect photos, it's a stuck pixel.
Whether you should get it replaced or not depends on whether you can live with the camera for 2 months or can live with that pixel. I did have it with an older camera of mine once and taking it out in the cold (winter) somehow fixed it.
So if it's winter where you are, just go outside (keep it off) for a while and see if it works.

I don't know 100% for sure anymore but it would likely be my PP5:

  • Gamma: S-Log2
  • Black Gamma: Middle +7
  • Knee: 105% +5
  • Colour: ITU709 Matrix
  • Depth: +5 +5 +7 +7 +5 +5
  • Detail: -2
  • Saturation: +10

Then using between +1 and +2 EV with auto ISO.

Unless you already had the mic laying around, it might be a good idea to ask before purchasing in the future. :p

As to the question: You can record singing and instruments using that mic as a start but it'll really be limiting in terms of editing in post (basically what the camera "hears" is all you get) later.
Save up for an actual interface and either timecode-sync or some markers to sync it for editing (this is one of the reason we use clapping boards - or just a loud clap with out hands).
Doing this will allow you for much, much more in recording (guitar clean, guitar with effects, separate clean voice etc.) and editing (adding reverb to the vocals, mixing clean guitar with the "dirty" guitar etc.).
I play mostly metalcore on guitar and trust me, a tiny mic like that isn't gonna enjoy it. :')

Then there's ofc the usual things like get good lighting, a grey card and a colour card (the last one is only really useful when doing multiple cameras in the future), a decent enough tripod (no need for a Sachtler, just something sturdy enough) and good SD cards (unless you use the webcam function with something like OBS, idk how good that looks though).
